Paint for Lexan? What type of paint can be used on Lexan? I want to find other paint than the small expensive cans at the hobby shop. Does it require laquer paint, I know enamel does'nt stick to it. |
Re: Paint for Lexan? I've seen a paint called Fusion by Krylon that is supposed to be for plastic's, any one tried it? |
Re: Paint for Lexan? ive tried the cheap bigger sprays for plastics with not so good long term durability results i prefer the tiny $7.50 a can pactra this faskolor works well with a gun dont know prices also you can get the small pactra jars that work great with a gun. about 3 bucks a bottle http://i1193.photobucket.com/albums/...1/paint002.jpg but sticking with lexan or polycarbonite paint i think is the way to go because its for lexan |
Re: Paint for Lexan? I agree with Greg. I just painted my Dingo in Tamiya and Pactra small cans. So far many roll overs have occurred and all the paint is still there even with the lexan flexing. I did my Comanche body on my creeper in krylon fusion and it is chipping off where the body flexes upon striking something. |
Re: Paint for Lexan? Thanks for the input guys "thumbsup". |
Re: Paint for Lexan? The Pactra is the best. Problem is with the flex of lexan. If you clean the inside (painted surface) with a mild abrasive soap and a scotch brite pad it removes the oils and scuffs up the surface a bit for good bonding. Give it a couple of coats, letting each coat dry thoroughly before applying the next, and back it with a white or silver...your color will pop and your paint job will last longer than the lexan body. |
Re: Paint for Lexan? Hobby store paint it is "thumbsup", I have 3 rigs that will be getting new skins this season 8). |
Re: Paint for Lexan? Tamiya paint works well also. |
Re: Paint for Lexan? I have used Pactra paint on all mine and have great luck with it. X2 on covering it with white or silver! It does make a big difference. |
Re: Paint for Lexan? I've had good luck with the Tamiya- but am having difficulty finding a nice Sahara Tan like some of the Newer Jeep JK's came with. Any ideas? |
Re: Paint for Lexan? I typically use Faskolor with an airbrush. However the Krylon fusion stuff works great, if you are careful when applying it. Lots of light coats is the trick. It will bond to the lexan very well. In my experience the body cracks before the paint chips. |
Re: Paint for Lexan? I agree, the Krylon Fusion adheres very well and have used it a few times on different projects with no issue. It did not adhere well for some reason to a panel that I had painted previously with fusion. I am not sure if this was a fluke, but maybe requires a slight roughing up prior to using Fusion on Fusion |
