Default New New Bright decal removal

First thanks to transambill for the heads up on the new batch.
These tribal decals on the Jeep are a foil like with a lot of sticky underneath. The foil comes off easy but the sticky stays. Not news.
But this sticky isn't so bad. I went after it with some good old painters masking tape. Just small pieces and dabbing on the residue until it was all gone. No chemicals or scrubbing that could hurt a body. Maybe not as fast but safe. I haven't figured out the windshield yet.

Use glass cleaner. I found that windex works the best. Makes it real gooey but takes it off fairly easily and quickly.

did you hair dryer the decals off? or just peel them off at room temp?
hair dryer helps a LOT. not sure on the new foil graphics though, worked great on the old paper based ones.

For the windscreen on mine I used acetone on a cotton bud.

Just tried the tape method for a hummer H2 nikko body I didn't have any masking or painters tape but have plenty of duct tape. Worked awesome and I will be using this method from now on. Thanks

i just messed my paint up on my recently aquired blue jk from trying alchohol to remove the residue. i shoulda read up on here first.

so like, dont use alchohol...

judging from how easy it came off with just alchohol at least i know i can strip the rest of the paint off fairly easy.

Thanks for posts, got a flat black 97 chevy with paper type stickers. Got them off fine with hair dryer and rolled glue off with my thumb but can still see a residue I didn't know quite how too approach. And was leary of doing anything to windshield. Got the jeep too but haven't messed with it.

I just went thru the same issues for the same body but luckily for me it was "cold" enough here where the adhesive for the stickers stayed with the stickers. As for the windshield a piece of .040 lexan will work. Just "frost" the edges like they did with black to hide the window mounts

Lightly use rubbing alcohol and wipe the area. Not to much because it will take the paint.

I figured I'd try the acetone on the windshield. I also read of someone using alcohol. If it doesn't work out lexan is cheap.

Best stuff I've used is ELO (Easy Lift Off) by Testors. Pulls off decals quick and easy. Just be certain to leave it on only long enough to remove the decals. Eventually, I mean after considerable time, it will begin to wrinkle the paint.

Baby oil is by far the best and cheapest sticker residue remover I've used. Works AMAZING!

Shhhhh.... Don't let the secret out to just anyone......

But the best thing for removing even the stickiest sticker and the residue it leaves behind is "Ronsinol" lighter fluid.

Wet the decal/sticker until it clearly is saturated....
Let set for about 15-20 seconds and slide decal/sticker off.
If any residual stickiness remains use a soft cloth soaked with an application of Ronsinol and easily wipe away any sticky residue left.

Remember.... Shhhhhhhhhhhhhh........

^Ronsonol works great. If I don't have any I turn to WD40.

i can say 100% do NOT use alcohol... i tried it on one of the blue nb jk bodies and it ended up removing the paint.

and yes, i like repeating myself. ;)

Besides removing paint does the alcohol or lighter fluid methods have any other problems, like eating away at the plastic or remaining flammable?
