Default Bruiser Body Stripping/Restoration Assistance needed

Hi Everyone, I was looking at the Tips and Tricks Thread and read that Brake Fluid will strip paint. As well I have read many threads on other sites as well and everyone says to use "Easy Off" oven cleaner. Well me demise is that Easy Off is not taking the paint off. Not sure what the person used but the only thing I have found is Laquer Thinnner and it is a WAY TO SLOWWW Process. As well it does take some of the fine details out of the body when rubbing with a rag will Brake Fluid do this same thing as well?

Any help would be appreciated.. As well I have found out the truck has been painted like 3 - 4 times. White on top, Yellow, spots of Orange and then the Original Blue (Box Art).

Thanks for your help.

The best thing to use is castrol super clean and degresser. It works ultra fast and really really good. Better then break clean. Easy off makes me nervous, I have heard of guys melting the bodies :-(

I just stripped a bruiser body. well a couple of times already as the primer I used didn't like the detail sections and pulled away. well I used a purple cleaner from the auto parts section at walmart. It is the same as the Castrol super clean, just not name brand. it worked great. another product I have used is red devil lye from the hardware store in the plumbing department. actually I think the purple power has lye in it as they both ad the same affect. both do not harm plastic but disolve the bonds in paint. Just let your body soak overnight and when cleaning the paint will scrub off with a toothbrush and down the drain. Best no labor non toxic paint remover I have ever used.

I ahve used the red divil product to disolve the paint off of 1:1 parts too. it worked great there too.

I have not used the oven cleaner. but it seems if I need to wear gloves and have good ventalation to use I would rather go the route I went.

I have used the brake fluid in the past but it too is a messy process as you have to scrape the paint off then clean off the brake fluid. so eventually you will wind up washing under water.

Thanks Mike so I would need a large enough container to let it soak in? I cant just spray it on wait and then wipe it off it sounds like.

Thanks Guys for the info, I hated to ask this question because I am sure it was asked a thousand times and that is why I wanted to preface that I tried to do some searching before posting. I am still trying to get use to the site and how many different areas you can find almost the same question. I can understand why people don't want the same quesion asked over and over again.

Don't rush stripping a vintage body. I learned the hard way a few years back on my first restoration when someone on a forum said Goof Off. It blistered the plastic nicely :-(...

Oven cleaner has been my best best for hard bodies so far, and I sometimes strip vintage Kyosho lexan bodies using the brake fluid technique. Both work, but always try in an inconspicuous area first.

The body needs to soak. not get misted. since it is water based it will just evaporate. I used 2 rectangular storage containers. One was used as a lid to keep evaporation down. since the container was small I had to flip my body over to do the other side.

Yes if you use the castrol superclean or the purple power from wallmart, get a bucket or a square plastic storage container they are like 2 bucks. pour the cleaner in the container and place the body in it. it will disolve the paint right off. it will not harm plastic at all as it is not a solvent. it is water based. it just brakes down the bond of the paint. The paint just falls off. Best of all after you are done pour the cleaner back in the container and put it away for the next time you need it. If you need to dispose of the cleaner all you need to do is pour it down the drain. you can't pour brake fluid down the drain.

I can assure you I just used the purple power cleaner on my bruiser body, interior, and bumpers. all the paint that was on them fell off and left a body that was like new save for the scratches.

Ok I have tried the Easy Off and it didn't work on my Bruiser Bed/Cap and over night I tried the Super Clean Degreaser in the Purple Jug and just let is soak over night. All it did was just put aligator skin small cracks in it. I don't know what this person originally used but this paint is acting like it is BOMB proof. LOL
Even the Laquer Thinner doesn't want to cut it unless you rub over and over a tiny spot at a time. But then it hasn't even cut through the tough white paint.

ARGUHHHHHH

I 2nd that, I have used brake fluid many times and never had a problem you may have to let it sit in the fluid over night and hit it with a water hose and a toothbrush the next day, if all paint is not off place body back into brake fluid. It may take a few days depending on the type and age of paint used and the brake fluid.
