| best place to look for sand blasting service?
i have a couple tube chassis's i want to repaint but would like to start off at clean metal. i figure getting them sand blasted would be the best way to do that. i don't have that type of equipment so i was wondering where to look. auto body shops, etc? any places that provide the service for our type of hobby?

You might try a metal fab shop. A machine shop would also be a great first stop. You could buy a can aircraft stripper and get all the paint off fairly easily.

Most machine shops have a blast cabinet of sorts. I would prefer a blast strip as well as it will roughen up the metal and give a better bite surface for the new paint to adhere to. What about powdrecoating? Much more durable than standard paint and most places do a blast prep before they powdercoat anyway

Check plating shops..when I was redoing my 77GS the front fender was chrome..plating shop dipped it and etched it for $30 right down to bare metal ready for primer. gets into all the spots that a sand blaster cant..I was also told sandblasting is pretty harsh and may bend the metal. JC |

You can get a can or two of Acetone from Home Depot. We use it at work, but we use rags to rub off oils, marker, or paint I'm sure if you let it soak it would just fall off by itself, and would get into any and all nooks and crannies I'd blast it for you at work if you were in the Inland Empire in So Cal |
