Default Matt finish paint on lexan?

Is it possible to do a matt finish painting a lexan body? I have a wrangler body I wish to paint and I wanted to do the flares and roof in matt black.

Do I paint the inside as per normal then paint the outside of it??

Yes. Easiest way is to paint flairs black on inside. Then paint your body however u wish. When your done lightly cut areas on outside of body in the ext paint mask to expose lexan surface and paint flat black. You will find that the lexan paints are not gloss at all and just appear that way through the plastic. But don't use a backing black on outside. It will be more of a gloss as is the backing white. Use outlaw black #rc250

Then when it dries pull off the ext paint mask and its done. Now if outside rubs off it will still be black under the lexan and not body color

Also, a backing color won't adhere very well at all to bare lexan. Honestly I've found zero use for a backing specific paint. I have always backed my colors with regular lexan paint.

Backing white and black are lexan paint and adhere fine.

Black rc304

White rc209

Both pactra paint.

If you use color changing lexan paint the other blacks such as outlaw black will wash out the color changing paint when used as a backer.

Like I said backing paint has more of a sheen.... Helps seal the int top coat from dirt and oils unlike the other colors that are more flat and rough.

Tamiya makes a flat spray paint that you can do on the outside of the body. Just paint the underside as normal, then mask off the outside and hit it with the flat.

I've had both pactra backing white and black flake off perfectly prepped bare lexan. Since then, I've read in several places to not use Backing paint as a base on laxan. They were the last formulations though (forget the white but the black was RC250 )

Odd. Never had issues with any of them flaking off. The 250 is outlaw black. I use this mostly when I do ext stuff cause it ends up flat. I do the spoilers on my vintage ta rigs and they get beat with standard scratch wear but no flakes. Done many fender flakes with both 250 and 309 no flaking.

Myself and RPMJ have had the same issue with the backing white.

Did Yall decrease? Pre heat lexan? And lay on thin coats?

Not doubting it flaked..... Just curious on your technique. I've bought my backing and standard colors in bulk. And specialty colors in singles due to I was painting quite a few bodies a week at local track.

I had white flake but it was because I got in a hurry and didnt let the other paint dry first. The last one I did I made sure the main color was completely dry before spraying the backing color !

Just accomplished this VERY thing. Painted the inside black (per usual). Purchased a "touch up" sand blaster & Glass Beads (media) from Harbor Freight for around $15. Masked the Jeeps (Sandblast mask). Blasted the tops, bumpers & fenders of two (2) Jeep Rubicon bodies. They came out PERFECT! Look like the real thing! What a great touch; a MUST detail for a Jeep. Was not hard to do.

I usually paint the inside of the body rust or silver then use a flat color on the outside then use a flat/dull clear coat.

I just painted my JK body with Krylon Satin black and it came out tits. I kept the stock silver but painted the outside to resemble bare metal when its scratched. I took a scuff pad and did a light scuff over painted area and sprayed several light coats of Satin black(same thing as Matte). Now wait till tomorrow and put a bit of color on it. Thinking some competition orange stripes or scallops.

I've never done this but saw an SC truck with great results. The dude painted it gun metal gray on the inside with lexan paint. He wanted flat accents, like the hood, so he wet sanded with fine grit sand paper on the outside. There were no scratches, just a 'flat' effect. That was tits!

Paint the inside as normal and use Tamiya PS-55 on the outside...if you can find it.
