Is it necessary to remove it? Can't you just paint over it? Maybe sand it some to get good adhesion. I know many remove paint from lexan because it is painted on the inside.

if its a styrene body, soaking it in castrol superclean or Mean Green will take off a lot of different types of paint without hurting the plastic

I have had some descent luck with using a abrasive cabinet to remove paint and provide a semi-rough base for the under coat to adhere to. Mind you, a #8 (roughly 120-grit) glass bead is what I used and about the biggest I recomend. A Starbright or aluminum oxide would be acceptable in the 150-grit and smaller size. I have been selling the stuff for over 6 years now and thought I would try it on a New Bright Hummer Body. Worked excellent.

Note: The static build-up that is created by this process can be quite painful and even dangerous (pacemaker for example) IF the cabinet and gloves are not properly grounded.

Low odor Oven Cleaner does the job on New Bright bodies, Castrol Superclean and Super Purple cleaner/degreaser also work pretty good.

Just a word of advice. He used brake fluid and it softened the clod body. The brake fluid blead through some of the body work even tho the body was wash with dawn dishwashing liquid between each stages of primer and body work.

So word of advice dot use brake fluid

Brake fluid works but it needs to be thoroughly cleaned following its soaking and dried for several days and cleaned again to be sure none remains in the plastic. Also as stated above if you soak it to long it can soften some plastics. I've used it on several tamiya bodies without incident, but that doesn't mean it won't happen. My second choice is Oven cleaner but it smells a hot mess unless you can find low odor but these don't seem to be as potent as regular. Good luck and be sure to do a super job cleaning it afterwards because any of these can and will leave chems on the body and ruin the paint job.

I'm no professional, nor would I even say I'm half as good as some of the guys here but mine have turned out smooth without issues like fish eyes runs etc after stripping and cleaning.

Motsenbocker's Lift Off 22 oz Ready to Use Spray Graffiti Paint Remover from Lowes or Home Depot. I used it today on a 15+yr old paint. The paint had 4 thick layers too. I sprayed it on and let it sit about 30mins and it peeled right off. Then spray some on a shop towel and scuffed the last bit off. The bottle states it is plastic and lexan safe. I tried dot 3 brake fluid and it didn't even touch it.
