| Dynamic Concepts '67-'72 Blazer "Hard bodies"
well ive been gathering parts for a C3 build, and bought one of these DC tall cowl Blazer lexan bodies when they first came out. well i just couldnt bring myself to run a lexan body on a scaler. just personal preference. so i hit up Kurt at Dynamic Concepts to see if he could help and make me a styrene version. well he said he could so i had him make me a couple. well styrene talk led to ABS talk and i wanted two of those too they came out amazing. all the detail of the lexan body, but in a "hard body" format/material. And for painting on the outside. he now has both available for purchase as with the lexan version, they all come with 3 different grills, light buckets, and assembly instructions (not shown) .050 HIPS ( High Impact Polystyrene) 170 grams white color .040 Natural ABS 150 grams off white semi transparent at first comparison the Styrene version feels beefier, but i think its just the weight tricking you. comparison squeezing and flexing shows them to be very similiar. Kurt says the ABS will be lighter and tougher. the styrene version i thought might be a bit soft and gouge easily like our hobby styrene, but this high impact version seems to be much harder/slicker than builders sheet styrene. i do love the white color of the styrene. but after painted youll never see it. i noticed if you take your finger nail with alot of pressure the ABS will make white stripes and crease. it holds just an ever so slight crease like real sheet metal. the styrene does this too, but not as noticable in the white. when painted i think this will be near identical. its VERY slight, and took a lot of presure. it would take a good sharp rock and leaned on it pretty hard to leave this permanant impression in real life crawling i think. i like it though. could look neat. they are not rigid like a Tamiya ABS molded hardbody, but dont flex like a lexan body either. kind of a middle ground. ill add more pics once i get them cut out and painted. hit up Kurt at Dynamic Concepts if your interested in one Last edited by STANG KILLA SS; 01-09-2013 at 08:09 AM. |

The scale enthusiasts aren't really excited to run Lexan bodies , so I am looking forward to seeing the final results of this comparison test. I would really like to offer an ABS or HIPS alternative to Lexan.

| Re: Dynamic Concepts '67-'72 Blazer "Hard bodies" I can form any of the current bodies I sell in ABS or HIPS. So for the EB, it would be the bobbed full cage EB, or the Wraith EB. PM sent. In general: Feel free to ask me any technical questions in this thread. Any sales questions, please PM me, or post it in one of my sales threads. |

What's the point of these? These are actually worse than lexan because there's no more detail in them but now you have no choise but to paint the outside.

Really?! There is a lot more you can do with them being made from styrene or ABS than paint them on the outside. For example, you would be able to cut, mold, sand, fill, manipulate it how you see fit, way more than you could ever do with Lexan. The customization of styrene or ABS is what is the attraction, not just being able to paint it on the outside. Hell you can paint your Lexan body on the outside too if you wanted. I personally think it's a great idea, and look forward to building something from one of then myself. Nice work Curt! Great idea Cory! | |

I know you can paint the outside of a lexan body but don't you think these abs and styrene bodies are too thin to use as a base for custom work?

| Re: Dynamic Concepts '67-'72 Blazer "Hard bodies" They are somewhat thin, but that could be easily remedied by being able to fuse additional styrene support. Like fire walls, floorboards and beds. With the use of thinner material, you also get the lighter weight qualities that the Lexan has. But with a more options for modification. |
