Gluing to lexan

Y is that, won't bond correctly? I'm in the process of cutting a Proline Lexan fj cruiser to shorten the body to a fj45 if I'm not mistaken. I'm using body net tape, almost same as drywall net tape or whatever the hell it's called. Gonna add pcs of Lexan to fill and then glue. Possibly use spot putty. Let me know if this will work. 1st time gonna attempt this process. Oh man.

I have the DC rubi Wraith i was planning on painting this weekend. I would like to do the flippy hood mod but that requires reinforcing some of the pieces and gluing the spacers to the body. The directions say to use shoe goo. I was planning to paint on the inside like any other body, should I not do that or just be extremely careful when applying the shoe goo?

not sure what to tell you....you can try to scrub the area pretty good before painting it and try to use the smallest amount of sho goo. Otherwise there's going to be a lot of action (opening and closing) on those gooed places. Or...goo it before you paint , then touch up the outside...or just paint the outside of the hood.

just curious, what is this kit for the hood latches ???

If the spacers are the same material as the body (lexan / polycarbonate) A solvent type adhesive (Weldon 2003) will bond the 2 pcs together better than any shoo goo joint. If the spacers are a different material you may have little choice but shoe goo or some other glue.

Whatever you do make sure the body & spacers are very clean on the surfaces you are joining (no paint, scuffed, & cleaned with alcohol at least.)

Its all lexan so it should be easy. Maybe it would be better to paint the body on the outside, i'll read over the included directions again it may have said that was the better option. Thanks for the hint on the Weldon I'll look into it.

I have some plastic tabs for cable routing that I was going to use, they are small and fit around the tube on my stiffy kit perfect (thanks to the awesome DmG). Hoosierdady did a great job on his and is the one that inspired me to do the same.

I use the cable tabs, but don't use a spacer....good idea actually
I also painted my hood on the outside. I break the tabs regularly ....weak point is the hole/surrounding material. I'm mean to my wraith...

Has anyone tried this stuff called Lexel? It is supposedly 19 times clearer then silicone. I was going to test it on some scrap pieces of lexan and see how it goes. Here is a link Lexel® - The superior alternative to silicone.

Just tried some of that Weldon stuff that Dostradamas suggested...works pretty good...you got to let it cure for awhile though.
