Default Tamiya clear coat

Hi, just finished applying the 5th coat of gunmetal gray tamiya paint to my trailfinder, shes looking fantastic.

Just wondering if i should bother with the clear coat or not? If so, how many coats would be optimal?

Thanks.

I've read a bunch of guides/post online for my tf2 body - one of the better guides I've seen is - How to Apply, Polish, and Wax Your Paint to Perfection

After reading this, I decided against a clear coat since I'm not using metallic paint, and it makes any future mods/touchups difficult. Instead, i'm going to use polishing compound and wax after painting.

Clear coat it with Testors Wet Clear. I would lightly wet sand the grey with a 2000 grit paper, then shoot it with the clear. Then wet sand again, followed by another coat of clear. After it has all cured then apply w silicone wax that dries clear (no white residue in the lines/cracks) the finish will be gut slick and easy to clean. Here's is a few examples of what the finished product will look like.

Another option for clear coating Tamiya TS paints.

This stuff is way more durable than Tamiya clear and if applied correctly wont need wet sanding or polishing as it is a high gloss clear.

Can be difficult to find in Australia but if you search around, you should be able to track some down.
