Default First lexan paint job

Okay, the paper with the new body says just wash with warm soapy water, rinse and dry and paint, the young guy at the hobby shop said I should scuff the inside , wash and rinse, which is the best way or would it make any difference, thanks, cheer`s

Just use a scotchbrite pad wash it with soap and water then dry it out completely. Mask and paint, then pull off external plastic protector done.

Make sure it's clean and dry....scuffing helps the paint adhere
Post up a pic when you're done...

Scuffing the inside will usually not show up if you use solid acrylic colors. any other colors, translucent, transparent, lacquers, mirror chrome etc will show the scuff marks. people scuff up the inside of the body out of fear the paint will chip off. If you spray your first layers THIN sort of a mist, let it dry, usually dries in seconds. then apply several thin coats and your paint will stick. If you spray it on to thick, the paint will stick to it's self rather than the plastic. the first thin misted coat will dry instantly adhering to the plastic. the next several layers will stick to the first paint layer.
If you paint to thick, think of an egg, the outer layer of paint will dry first because it's exposed to the air. Under that thin skin the paint takes much longer to dry and dries from the outside in. the last to dry is the paint layer on the plastic which will tend to pull away from the plastic and adhere to it's self. Thus making it easy to chip.

Thanks guys, I did scuff it with really fine scotch pad, just in tape mode now, I might have to wait a bit to paint, low temps here and lots of humidity, for some reason the "one who must be obeyed" does not want me painting in the basement, and my garage is not heated, great advise casi, lots of light coats, cheers

It may be too late to add since you've already painted the body but it's a good idea to cut and trim the body before painting. It will affect the clear protective film but masking tape can solve that and prevent overspray. Nothing like painting a nice coat of your favorite color only to have it scuffed up on the inside by scissors

Hope this helps you in the future as I'm sure it won't be the last body you paint.

PS.. try using this code .

I did trim the body some, but didn't want to cut it down too far, I am thinking this will be more for tail running rather than try and do too fancy of rock climbing, it was a cheap rig to start with and I wanted to see how much I was going to get into it, I am leaning towards a more scale unit next, like the jeep and honcho,
Thanks for the pic hint, I will try that next time, cheer`s

My first lexan painted body was horrible but then I slowly got better and found better tape to use.

Peeling? That should not happen unless you did not use polycarbonate paint. It is formulated for lexan which will allow for durability against chipping from crashing and even protection from nitro fuel. When I first started painting rc bodies I experimented with duplicolor auto paint due to the color selection but quickly found that they didnt stand up to the bashing eventually flaking off.

I used a lacquer RC paint as that's all they had at my local HS, both the black and bronze have a bit of metal flake, so I sprayed silver inside the other colors to give it some reflection, its hard to get your head around painting from the outside in, its the opposite of painting a real car. I flexed the crap out of mine and it seems to be holding up pretty good, time will tell though, cheers
Sorry for such a big pic guys, I just figured out how to post pic`s and forgot to resize.
