Can I paint over Yellow Trail Finder 2 body?

Hi! I am getting the 2 ( front and back ) Mojave body set pieces and it only comes in yellow, but I'm wanting to paint it Orange or Blue, so I am wondering; Can I paint it a primer color and then paint my wanted color on top of that , or if I can just paint directly over the yellow? Thanks for all the help!

A Primer would be best but it's not really needed.

Ok thanks. I figured I MIGHT need to buy a primer coat from Parma and then my paint but wasn't 100%.

Clean the plastic with soap and water.

you can purchase the white Mojave body kit...
I know, as I purchased and have two... but they cost more for some reason.

I recommend a primer first...
because as the paint gets scratched from wheelin' it...
the yellow will show thru easier.

On our white Mojave bodies...
we first lay a oxide (reddish-brown) primer...
^ a coupla' coats at least...
then paint (coupla' more coats)...
that way it might replicate rust if the body is lightly scratched...
if it's a really deep gouge... then in your case, yellow will show no matter.

In our case... it will be white instead of yellow. (apples n oranges)

I believe they stopped making the yellow now as it looks weird when you scratch it. Not 100% on that. You can't get the yellow one from RPP unless you buy from their kit part out.

I'd still paint it...
protect it from the UV somewhat

you don't want it to become more brittle

Yeah but scratch's wont show as much.

Make sure you buy the paint for plastics, not the lexan paint.

i use krylon fusion paint from walmart for my hilux body sticks jus fine. and alot cheaper then rc paints. and lil more color selection. but i would lay down a couple layers of primer before your final color. i used a silver primer so when i scratch it it actually looks like a normal car when it gets scratched. goes to metal. i dont know any rigs that scratch to rust right away. but thats jus my liking. maybe after a year or two of running my body (if i havent stripped it and repainted it again) ill take some rust color and brush it in for rusting.

Yup, and the Mojave body is styrene. Or, more commonly known as plastic.

Well what if I buy the Tamiya Hilux body? First of all, would it be a " direct " fit? ( My only real concern about this is finding the bumper and grill and stuff for the Hilux body )
2nd, it already comes in a wierd plastic type gray-tan type color, and It's a lil' cheaper than the Mojave body.. I may just do that.. gimme some opinions here haha

be careful with what types of paint and primer you mix. I had my whole body bubble up after putting my paint over the primer. OOPPS. Now im trying to strip all the paint off to start over. Not a fun task

I am interested in what exactly happened. I have been reading a lot about painting, have some experience in house painting. One thing I know is you don't paint acrylic (or latex) over oil unless you go over it first with kilz primer. Now this does apply to RC paint cause if you use acrylic paint over some primers (which many are oil based), it may bubble. So keep water based with water based, and oil with oil based. Am I right?

Mine believe it or not was the same brand of paint. I was using krylon indoor outdoor paint. I ran out and sent my wife to Walmart to get some more. She grabbed paint plus primer and created the disaster lol. This time going around I am using duplicolor which I got from O'Reilly auto parts. I am very impressed with the quality. It's turning out much better than I thought it would after having to strip the whole thing.
