| Paint is curling or lifting
Hello peoples... I am new to the whole painting of my RC cars. I just recently purchased a trail finder 2, I scuffed up the body and washed it with dawn dish soap. after letting it dry I sprayed it down with primer and again let it dry. when I went to spray on the color the paint seem to curdle, web, left I'm not sure the correct term Off the body. Any ideas. I'll try and get a picture loaded. |

I think you used an automotive primer and then went over it with acrylic. List the primer/paint brands and formulation.

We use to call that orange pealing, wrong primer to finish coat, like painting a 90 year old person, kind of wrinkly. cheers

The first primer was a rust-oleum primer White and the paint is a Dupli-color. I sanded the whole thing down and went with a Dupli-color primer.

It could be from something getting on the primer after you let it dry, Its having a reaction to what ever is on the body. I would wet sand the primer and hit it again and let it dry for a few hours. then clean it really well before spraying your top coat.

More than likely the primer isn't happy with the top coat. It can also be caused by applying to heavy of a top coat. Try painting in very lite coats this time around. You will basically over spray the truck with your first coat. Let it sit for several hours in the sun or over night even before touching it. Then wet sand lightly and follow up with your 2nd coat. -just spotted that this thread is kinda old. You probably have it finished by now. |

Should it then be varnished or sealed in any way?
