Default Gluing magnets to a lexan body

I am looking at using magnets to hold my JK body on my SCX10. I've seen on other threads that people use drywall tape and shoe goo to reinforce the body where the magnets are attached. I intend to do the same, but I wonder if I should add the tape/shoe goo and let it dry before adding the magnets, or attach it all at the same time? Any advice would be appreciated. Also if this seems like a bad idea, please feel free to post up why you think so. Thanks

Shoe goo holds well on lexan (it also stays flexible, a glue that hardens is not good long term on a flexible body.)
Rough up the area you want to glue to, don't leave it smooth.
The drywall tape is for strength & reinforcement (sometimes holding cracks together.)

Best way to be sure is to cut off a scrap pc of lexan & try gluing your magnets on.
Torture test & see how durable it is. Go from there.

Stick everything together before the glue dries.

Thanks for the replies guys, i tested it on an older body, and couldn't pull the magnet off to save my life, so the body is drying as we speak.

I have a SCX10 and the Shoo Goo I use to anchor the magnets is now discoloring the body on the outside. Any thoughts on how to prevent this?

E6000 is my go to.

I used it to attach magnets to my GEN8’s Power Wagon body.

Strong like bull!

But easy to clean up if need be.

Paint the body on the outside... (one option!)

Is it just on the hood?

To hide it on a body where it's happened already, give it a matte black hood/roof or even just racing stripes just wide enough to hide the stain.

Or decals.

How to prevent on your next body - well, I don't have an answer.

Anyone else?

More coats of paint with longer drying time in between, perhaps?

Here is the book on magnets and lexan. Hasn't failed me yet

E6000 and Shoe Goo are almost twins, with E6000 being thinner and runnier.

They will stick together AFTER dry, so you need the clear tape between.

Paint must be cured totally.

NEWB here. When using magnets how do you ensure proper location?

I also use Shoe goo and/or E6000 - I do prefer E6000 because it is easier to apply for me.

To ensure the position I do the following:
  • Add a plastic shim on the magnets on the chassis
  • Place the magnets I want to glue on top.
  • Place the body on the chassis.
  • Add two stronger magnets on the outside of the body.
  • Lift the body up. The magnets I want to glue should stay on the body instead of the chassis.
  • Mark the positions.
  • Add glue and place magnets.
  • Add the stronger magnets on the outside again.
  • Let it dry over night.

I hope it is clear what I try to say.

I also used this method on the proline cage
