Default Duratrax Lexan Paint

I saw a new rack of Duratrax Polycarbonate paint at my LHS recently. I'm interested in the compatibilty with the other brands like, Tamiya and Pactra. Has anyone applied the Duratrax over and under the other brands with any ill affects, especially the silver?

No clue, but take a scrap piesce of lexan and spray one of the paints, let dry and spray over the first color and see what happens. Better to be sure then guess and fail.

I have tested the DTX paints with Pactra, Tamiya and Parma with no issues.

Thanks guys, for your inputs.

I thought there wouldn't be any bad effects, but I wanted to ask before I starting buying them. Does the Duratrax seem to act more like Pactra or Tamiya? The guy at LHS said it was derived from the Pactra formula. Not too sure about his RC savy.

Our distributor tells us that company actually bought out Pactra and that the Duratrax paint is "literally the exact same paint." His words. So any experience you have with Pactra should translate directly to the new stuff.

s1nn3r is correct.. pactra went under over a year ago and duratrax picked up the rights to the paint and all the colors. so actually what you are seeing with the pactra labels on it at the local shops is years old...

Pactra didn't go belly up, their parent company Testors discontinued them and Floquil, but I wouldn't be surprized if they were the same paints, but they must be sourcing the new cans from the same place Mopar gets the cans for their factory touch up spray paints.........because the spray nozzles on both brands suck

according to Duratrax...
they mix their own paint formula in house.

DuraTrax R/C Car Paint FAQ

"Duratrax RC Car Paint is made right here in the USA using raw materials sourced in the USA.
All paint production is done in-house including grinding proprietary color pigments to assure quality control.
"

Did they buy Pactra's production rights ?
that could be a possibility.

I had heard of Testors being bought out and those two lines being seen as "not profitable" by the new owners, so they went away, makes me wonder if Hobbico bought them sometimes. If they did buy Testors, that statement about them being made "in house" would make sense, Hobbico is based in Champaign, IL while Testors is in Rockford, IL, all the cans read is that the paints are made in The USA, but they don't state where exactly.

They even use the Pactra paint code with the exception of the letters PC instead of RC.

Testors wasn't bought out recently. They have been part of RPM since 1984.
