Default Painting Stock RTR Body

Im about to buy a Axial SCX10 RTR , I want to paint it matt black.

Am I able to paint over the existing body? if so, is it best to sand it first to rough it up for the paint to stick

Are you wanting to paint the outside?

The best way would be to get a new body that is clear and paint the inside with polycarbinate paint. You can dull the outside by spraying it with a clear matt finish. You could try stripping the old body with dot 4 brake fluid, but it leaves a slight murky residue on the lexan.

You could just paint the outside with polycarbinate paint for Lexan. It has a slightly matt appearance but a clear coat may still be needed.

The cheapest you can do is to paint a very light coat of any color left over polycarbinate paint on the outside. When that is dry, you can paint with Krylon Fusion for plastics in the color you want in two or three coats until thoroughly covered. The polycarbinate paint sticks to the Lexan and the Krylon Fusion sticks to the polycarbinate paint giving you a pretty sturdy paint job.

It won't flake, but it will scratch as any enamel or lacquer paint would.

Good luck!

Something I have wondered and would like to see someone try... is Latex paint on the outside. Plasti-dip is has a latex base so I'm wondering if you can't coat it with Latex, then peel if off when you're tired of it. Would get that matte finish you're looking for too and would be cheap.
