Default Alternatives to powder coating a steel chassis & tube frame?

I am looking to paint the steel chassis and frame I have. Are there any alternative to paying a local powder coated to paint it? Thank you

You can use exhaust header paint and engine paint. You cute it you can back it in your oven in stages and it holds strong.

Thanks for the reply, that is what I am going to do. I bought the engine paint...any advice on what temp to throw it in the oven and for how long? Also, should I do a couple coats, then put in oven, then another coat, then back into the oven, or is that overkill?

Just paint it like normal and then bake it. Should be some temperature instructions on the can.

I have found that the engine enamel works better then the header paint mainly because my oven doesn't get hot enough to fully cure the header paint.

You could use Duracoat. Its a finish developed for firearms. Its super strong. It can be sprayed from a typical spray gun or you can a kit that includes an aerosol can and spray it yourself. Then, you bake it in your oven for a while.
Ive finished 12 firearms in the stuff and its unbelievably tough.

Just another alternative to look into.

Ive used engine paint and baking in the oven on my last three builds. I am really liking the results.

Hey Guys I have questions about the Ceracoat or Duracoat. Does it spray just like regular Paint? Can you over reduce it or if not still spray it through an Airbrush with a large nozzle (like a .5 tip)? When it goes in the over is there fumes to it? I know with powder coating they recommend using a dedicated over not one you cook in. My wife will freak if the fumes remain .

Duracoat needs to be reduced unless you get the aerosols ($32 per can).
So yes, the reducer will smell.
I don't know about Ceracoat, I'd imagine it's the same.

Interesting. I know they recommend not baking powdercoating in your kitchen oven. So I wonder if with this stuff it's the same? Maybe the Ceracoat you don't have to bake is the way to go. I don't mind the reducer smell. I get that in my garage airbrushing all the time, but it dissipates. Now if i make our oven unsafe to cook in, that's another story all together!

So how tough is this stuff? Is it on par with powder coating? Crawlers can take a beating.

If you use your oven then it will be no good to cook food in anymore.

yeah I figured so much. Well a cheapo toaster over should work fine. Might just have to explore this stuff. I'm tempted to try and make some panels for my Yeti to go inside the rails. Would be nice to have a tough paint. Though I doubt even this stuff would stand up to hitting rocks or the roof sliding over who knows what .

Stick with paint. Powder is a bitch to touch up and doesn't last as long as it should imo.
