Default First go at using styrene!

So my son and I put together a tamiya tracked vehicle and it didn't have a body so we tried to make one out of styrene. Any help or tips would be nice.

Dollar store foam is a buck a sheet. Use hot glue gun to glue it together. If you go to flitetest.com they build airplanes out of this foam. There are a lot of good ideas on how to cut so you don't have the paper edges showing like you have now. They have a lot of instructables on YouTube. Have fun! : )

Does this vehicle just go back and forwards or does it have a remote?
Cheers

Just back or forward. The box indicated that you can get additional parts to make an rc bulldozer. However most of the box is in Chinese. It dose crawl over stuff well. 4yr old has been enjoying it.

Maybe some full length fender to give it a better body line (you can shape the styrene with a heat gun), a few LEDs won't hurt either... Nice little build

I'm not a styrene expert, but I have messed with it a little. Some sandpaper on the edges will clean things up a lot. Nice first go with Styrene, it is kind of addictive.

Now you've done it. Sure my first foray into styrene, just a cool little track rig, THEN, another just cool little rig - 14 rigs latter your divorced - and living in a van down by the river! But I digress. Nice start, now the addiction sets in!

adding some panel lines to add dimension and scale would help alot. The little bits you added are a good start so just keep going from there, You could put a visor or visors over what im guessing is headlights and find something thats round and clear to glue on to look like bulbs or heat up some thin plastic with a heat gun and push a rounded object into it to make a lense. Use some drinking straws to make exhaust pipes

if your son has any broken toys laying around or you have old models that are missing parts or just lost interest in, those are gold mines!

hope i gave you some ideas. It looks awesome

just had some other good ideas. You could add skirts to the treads and cut up a plastic bottle and make a snow plow!

Haha nice. I actually bought that same kit for my son, thinking we would build it together but it turned out to be quite a challenge for ME! and I've build tamiya kits before.

I just picked up a styrene cutter hobby knife set and some clamps and hobby files. I used a kitchen knife for this project. I'm practicing for my blizzard body build. I found a thikol sprite extra cab that I really want for my new body.
