Question Painting lexan?

Ok, now I've only painted one body in my short time in RC...it was a basher body for a Slash 4x4...so I stuck with the paint for polycarb....but some of the paint jobs I've seen on some of the Wraiths make me wonder...what paint was used...I want to make my wraith look militaryish....but most of the brands of lexan paint doesn't have OD green or Khaki.....so what paint or techniques are you guys using for these great looking paint jobs?

On my wroncho, (Traxxas Dodge SCT body), I used Tamiya PS14 copper paint on the inside, backed by black, and on the outside, Tamiya PS12 Silver. Once the lexan surface is sprayed with a polycarbonate paint first, you can use any type of compatible paint over the top. I used Rust-Oleum chalkboard green over the silver, Testor's flat black, brown, and green over the top for a camo look. To flatten the gloss colors, I topped it with 2 coats of Testor's dullcoat.

So, if I was to spray the inside with a clear coat... Then I could use whatever paint I want over it?

I used an air brush and custom mixed paints to paint this.

As long as the clear coat is a polycarbonate paint, yes. Just make sure you prep the body, wash with a mild detergent, and let dry. It worked for me. I painted on the outside to see if I could get the rust effect as the paint rubbed off. Oddly enough, it hasn't yet, lol

if you paint the inside of the body it will be glossy, since the lexan outside is glossy.

i would go with what mike said, put a layer of polycarb paint on the outside and then lightly scuff and shoot over that.

No idea how to do camouflage. The guys above me here /\ will know more about it. But i used Tamiya PS55 flat clear on the outside on some bodies and it works great to give a flattened look.

+1 on that! I didn't expect to see you here.

If you're planning on painting more faskolor could be an option, you can mix basicly any color you want and for the basic colors it can be applied with a brush. I did flat camouflage on my Jeep by simply painting the inside with OD green I mixed with faskolor, then Tamiya flat clear on the outside.

Besides being water based the faskolor on my Jeep held up fine after lots of submerging .
