| Painting outside of lexan bodies...
I want a dull looking paint job on my Jeep Nukizer. What are the steps to properly paint the outside of a lexan body? I wanna give it a old looking paint theme. TIA |

Scuff it with a brillo pad, wash it with dish soap, and paint.

Find a color paint you like that will flex, and when your done clear coat it with a mat finish clear. I use Fusion paints from Home Depot. |

Paint it like normal, then peal off the protective film on the outside on the areas you want matte finish on and paint it with tamiya ps-55.

spaz stix matte finish for lexan Amazon.com: Spaz Stix 90119 No-Shine Exterior Matte Finish Clear Coat Aerosol: Toys & Games paint the inside like normal, peel the areas of protective film off of the outside that you want to be matte and spray it on then peel the rest. |

I find these work well to prep the outside of the body before you paint. Spraying lightly from a distance will also help keep the finish Matt. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Here's how I did my Blazer CUCV, Parma Faschrome and Fasblack on the inside, just so if anything on the outside chips off, it'll look like bare steel sheet metal, or the fiberglass topper. Then on the outside, peeled the overspray film, masked the windows, and laid down Tamiya acrylic paint XF-51 Khaki drab (OD green) all over, then highlights of XF-52 flat earth, and XF-1 flat black. SO flat! It's got a little wear and tear from smashing into obstacles in the basement, but seems to be holding up as well as I could have expected. Couple li'l scuffs here and there from being too lazy to turn my rig back over, and just trying to rock it 'til it righted itself. I would think if these paints were going to shatter and fly off in chunks, they would have by now. I'm happy with the paint sticking, just not happy with my 'interpretation' of woodland camo. Here's a couple pics out in the sun, down by a retention pond at work, Edit: Only prep-work I did was a teeny-tiny amount of dishwashing detergent (standard blue Dawn, if you got it), and some fingers. I didn't do any sanding, scratching, or roughing up, inside or out. Last edited by Trubble; 01-15-2016 at 04:22 AM. |

I think some people are confused. Spraying lexan paint on the outside of the body will automatically make it have a dull or flat finish. |

I paint the exterior of lexan a lot. I sandblasted the outside of my last body, and it's held up better than any other time.

I used a old deadbolt I hacked up the interior from. Here are some more pics, got some decals on it now. To make this paint job easier and faster I just painted the entire shell on the the inside (except window and headlights) then pealed of the pealfilm where I wanted it flat black, and painted that on the outside. Then I pealed off the rest, except windows and headlights, and sprayed with ps55 Last edited by AngelowDoom; 01-16-2016 at 03:14 AM. | |

I found the most important thing is wash the hell out of the bodys with good dish soap and rinse off real good then just before painting wipe the heck out of it with rubbing alcohol and do couple times with clean rags try and get in all the nooks and crannies and use a tack rag then paint and use the lexan paint on out side if you want flat finish. I use the lexen paint on the hard bodys to if I want flat finish but do sand them with like 600 grit and blow off wipe clean with the alcohol and tack it and spray.

| Re: Painting outside of lexan bodies... Everyone here has given you real good tips to paint on the outside. Just remember that as you scrape on rocks and obstructions, you're going to eventually rub that paint off. Spray the Inside of your body with either a silver ( bare metal), or copper ( rust), polycarbonate paint. That way when you beat the hell out of your paint, it will still give a scale effect.
