Default Quick question on hardbody: matte black.

I have one of those new xj cherokee bodies that I'll be painting.

For matte black (fenders and grill).

Is it better to use just matte black paint, or black paint with matte clearcoat over it?

Suggestions if you don't mind. I'm guessing matte clear will protect better.

Thanks guys, this is my first hardbody, but I've painted many other things.

I would use Satin black for plastics. You can find it at Walmart or a similar type of store.

I've never had luck with "flat" or "matte" black paint it always ends up looking like a dark grey. I would go with satin black.

That's for the quick response, guys.

I'm ordering a bunch of tamiya TS paints. So maybe a semi-gloss black, with no clear coat?

I noticed flat black isn't very durable. You look at it wrong and it marks and chips.

Semi gloss/satin. Same thing pretty much.

Yeah, your right about that. I only used the term because that's what was on tamiya's description. But I ordered the satin on your advice.

Thanks!
