| How did he paint this?
I bought this body used. I would now like to paint a new body and be able to paint the interior black like this one. I don't know the process or order in which the paint was applied. Any help in how to end up with a black interior and a different outer color would be appreciated. Thanks. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

Always paint the dark colors first or else they will darken the lighter colors. So: 1 - Mask off the entire yellow portion of the body and spray the black. 2 - Remove the rest of the mask and spray everything yellow (doesnt matter if you cover the black). 3 - Back all of the paint with white to make the yellow bright and even (doesn't matter if you cover the black) Obviously do several light coats until you have even coverage and allow to dry between coats. The backer white can be sprayed on a bit thicker. Make sure to clean the body first with dish soap and water, dry it with a paper towel. Make sure to use proper Lexan paint or it will crack off. |

It looks like whoever painted that body decided to mask off the black before spraying the white backer coat but that is not necessary.

Or you can do like I do. Mask off the interior then spray your body color, back it with white, I them spray silver to help from any dark colors bleeding through then I peel the mask off and finish with the black. I don't like have multiple colors showing under my body and don't like having light showing through.

paint the black first. do several light coats. hold the body up to a bright light and make sure there is no thin areas. wait for the black to dry a day or 2 prior to putting on the yellow. same with the white backing paint if you paint the yellow too soon after the black then the extra paint thickness may crack. you will then get yellow showing through. - this is why the previous owner did not paint the yellow over the black. - for a really neat trick paint try painting the yellow then shortly after paint on a quick drying black. - try scrap plastic first |

or, cut the protective cover off the interior on the outside, paint the inside of the body the color you want the body to be, then paint the interior on the outside of the body. The protective cover acts as a nice mask...I do this all the time with great results on Axial interiors as well as trim pieces.
