Clear windshield is now installed. I'm leaving the protective cover on until I get done painting.

Re: Cutting up rare one

So here is the scoop on this body. I was contacted by someone from the other side of the state and was offered a chance to buy this body. He said that he would be in Wenatchee WA with it and to bring $50. So I drove a hour and a half and picked it up.
As you can see I have one already. I know what to do so this is going very fast. I will not be cutting the doors out or the hood like I did on the first one. I want the hood to open but the previous owner cut to much of the body to do so. There are parts missing(mirrors, hood latch and fenders cut out to deep) I will have yo make due with what I was dealt.

Re: Cutting up rare one

So what I took out of the bed is 4 inches of pure UGLY. I now have the rear tail lights in and also the rear window cut and have clear Bayer Makrolon poly put in it place.

So after working on a few of these plastic bodies over the years I found the glue that is used to make repairs and gluing body parts.

Re: Cutting up rare one

A few things to look at. The mirror mounts, the rear window got glue on it so it was pulled and the bed is mounted. I still have a lot of work to do with hiding the seams and if you look close you can see the bed has the holes filled by the fenders (there black from the rear window that was cut out).

Re: Cutting up rare one

I wish everything this was this easy to make. Mirrors are in but need some polishing and paint.

Re: Cutting up rare one

So here are the colors that you will see on this body. The sanding and filler on the bed still needs to be done. the bed and fender will be painted with bed liner that is black also.

The reason I paint so soon is to show me what needs work to get the body strait.

Re: Cutting up rare one

Here is some of the details that I have been working on. The mirrors need to have lock tite inside the mirror so that it doesn't come loose. and the seams that are showing in the cut that was made need Bondo and sanding. I also need to make some rock sliders to get the body armor to protect the rear fenders and make the bottom rigid for that when the floor pan is in that it locks on to it.

Re: Cutting up rare one

The new body has a more aggressive profile because the previous owner did a lot of un need cutting. I like this color it shows better than the dark green.

Nice work!! What glue did you use? I just got a XJ Jeep Cherokee hard shell body and can you tell me the sanding sequence, like what grit paper to use first all the way to the last? Thanks in advance!!
