Default Cracked paint. how to fix?

I run a brushless hpi wheely king with a proline 1950s chevy body. The paint on the body has started to crack due to some fairly abusive impacts and i was wondering if this could be prevented or if im just goin to have to repaint it all the time. I used tamiya paint for plastics

if you want to know how i painted it, check out my build thread: brushless Wheely king rat rod build

Personally, I would stick with the Tamiya PS series. It seems to spray the smoothest out of both both Parma and the new Duratrax paint... And yes, I have tried all three.

I have found that scuffing the body with blue Scotchbrite before painting helps alot. I cut out the body first, then wash it with some mild dish soap while scrubbing the body (not the windows) with the blue Scotchbrite. You'll want to scrub in small swirls and go just until there is a slight haze, or even just noticable scuffs, depending on the abuse and effort you plant to put the paintwork through. I make my SC bodies really hazy (more for the paint to grip) because I know I put them through hell, and I've never had paint start to flake off. I've cracked bodies, but no flaky paint...

Also, make sure that you're painting in light layers. Heavy coats will definitely crack; they don't seem to bond correctly to the lexan.

What series Tamiya paint? PS is their polycarbonate specific paint. If you used another series, it won't flex as well because it was designed for other applications rather than Lexan. Scuff the plastic well with a ScotchBrite pad and repaint.

(Hah! realized this morning that while I was finding the link someone beat me to the punch with more detailed instructions!)

And since you have a rat rod, you can paint on either side using the above method and Polycarbonate specific paints. All my crawlers are painted on the outside, with PS copper on the inside for that scratched off rusted look. The only problem is, the outside paint is so durable, there are not many scratches
