Default Aged/Weathered Decals

Looking to see what others think about using Tamiya tint spray to weather stickers...is this a preferred method?
If so, do you 1st spray the decals on the sheet and then apply or the other way around? After application I've read some then do a light coat of flat clear.

Tamiya Polycarbonate PS-31 Smoke is used by some people as well...
