Default Dark/Navy lexan paint

Looking to get a dark blue color and can't seem to find one out of the rattle can. Was thinking about trying tamiya ps-59 (metallic dark blue) but backing it with a black instead of the usual silver. Anybody else have recommendations?

I think you're on the right track. I just painted a car with ps16 (metallic blue) and backed it with black (bedliner) and it came out looking the same as ps59 would have straight out of the can.

Good to know. I was mostly concerned it would turn out to black.

My Nukizer is painted navy blue with matt clear on the outside.
I used a paint called RC paint colors - navy blue

Black vs white , silver or gold will make colors darker. I shoot a lot of HOK and the HOK color charts show the difference in bases.

Handy tip I use is to take a scrap piece of lexan. Shoot your primary color then mask off strips to use different backer colors. Good way to see what black vs white vs silver would look like.

Don't know why I never thought of doing that. I'm on it.

I backed some regular rattle can paint with black pactra, turned out real good imo. Its painted on the outside, inside was painted silver.

Here is my PS-59 backed with black. Not really navy blue. But a very dark metallic blue. I would have liked a mother shade darker but over all I love it!

If you can still find it, pactra true blue pearl backed with black is on the darker side

Tamiya PS-4 backed with black, I think its the darkest blue (from Tamiya) that doesn't have metallic in it. I did maybe 3-4 coats of the blue to get it consistent then finished by backing it with black. I also used this on one of my Ascender k10 bodies and the final colors ended up pretty close.

the thinner your coats of blue are the darker it will be (when backed with black)

Hey guys I know this is an old post but thought I would try it
I just bought a used black Axe body when it gets here I am planning on painting it some cool blue color on the outside with that said I am not sure what color blue to look for that would come out cool looking
Next question to paint the interior of the axe will model paint work?

If you spray a polycarbonate color as a base coat, model paint should work, just spray thin coats.
