hardbodies from the Czech republic

I just recently (yesterday) acquired a complete bumper to bumper f350 crew cab hard body with the arb style bumpers. its a longer bed.. but its not a drop bed. I want to drop the bed but I don't know what material they use... feels like resin, looks like resin to me.. but they claim to be similar to Tamiya abs plastic.

The cab goes for about 100... so if its not like abs, I might as well just put a bed cover on it.

so before I chop up a 70 dollar bed.. somebody tell me lol. no I will not just use ca glue...

got it in a trade from ttr bobby. he got it off of ebay. the roofline is a little wavy but to the naked eye its not visible. other than that.. the detail is incredible.

Silly question, why don't you just test some out of the way piece to see if it softens with an ABS solvent?

I'd find an inconspicuous spot and try bonding some styrene (or whatever you're going to use for material) to it with MEK.

no real spot I can cut off or test to... I want to drop the bed so bad but if it doesn't bond with mek and styrene I just ruined a bed that cost more than a 2s rc king battery.

What are you talking about? Take one drop of glue place it underneath. Either the material gets soft and it cam be used or it doesnt and you cant.

I think you are over tinking this.

I am assuming you are referring to the ones made by Loops2042017? They are black plastic? Im surprised it is not a drop bed as the one I have that came from him was (as well as being shortened), same material used for both bed and front and rear ARB bumpers (i have a regular Tamiya cab though).

Anyway, i will post directly from the ad:

"the bed is made from very durable material very similiar to Tamiya ABS bodies. NO weak RESIN."

He also mentions using CA to glue in the light buckets.

In another ad for a body made of the same material he says to use CA, followed by:

Do not use Revell Contacts Liquid or Styrene Bondene and similar types of glues - they are not suitable."

Sorry for the multitude of posts... but going over his site and the "building products" section, Loops claims that their Surefix CA is suitable for bonding both styrene and their "similar to ABS" material - it would appear that that is what they use in all of their body building applications. A lot of their products are sold in finished ARTR form through EBay.

Any reason you are set against CA?

Mr. B...... CA becomes brittle when it hardens. MEK for example will melt/fuse the bits you are trying to adhere. CA is strong but will fail if used alone on our applications. Now if your planning on building a shelf queen CA would most likely do just fine on its own.

There's a sticky post at the top of this thread that explains which glues to use and why. CA glue along with ShooGoo or E6000 will definitely do the trick.
