Default Question about painting Lexan bodies on the outside.

Getting my SCX 10.2 Jeep body ready for paint! I was bever a fan of lexan bodies( prefer hard bodies)! Does anyone paint their bodies on the out side and is there a clear coat that is compatible with paint made for lexan bodies? Thanks!!!!

I bought a can of Tamiya PS-55 Flat Clear that is made for Lexan.

There's also PS-26: A "Protective Top Coat" and PS-58: Pearl Clear.

Anytime Ive painted on the outside of a lexan body I do a base coat with lexan paint... And then I just regular spray bombs for hard bodies over the lexan paint to get the colour I want!

Ialso have had very good results with the lexan paint as primer, and the paint of my choice on top. My last rig got rustolum metallic.

Yes, use lexan paint as a first coat. Then you can use use any paint you like. I use Krylon Maxx

Both of these were painted on the outside and inside. Tamiya silver first coat on the outside, camo'd with Krylon and Testor's flat paints. Tamiya copper first coat on inside, backed with Testor's flat black. As the paint scrapes off, gives the look of bare metal and rust.

Painting them and letting them sit on the shelf should last a good long time. But I would like to also paint one from the outside, and use it...
How do they hold up from tumbles and such?

I always painted the base coat on the out side and a rust color on the inside, so when it gets scratched up...it look like rust!

Inside painted with Tamiya silver, outside painted with Tamiya orange and white. Weathered with Faskolor paints, then finished off with Krylon matte clear.

While we're on this subject, do you also apply the decals on the outside and then maybe clear over them to protect them?

Can you explain how you have the body mounted. I assume you are using magnets?

Made some plates that mounted to the body posts and had Velcro on them.

Decals are adhesive-backed so yes you apply them on the outside. I weathered and cleared over them.

Funny. I just asked this exact question in another thread. Wasn’t sure how Tamiya plastic paint would hold up as long as the base coat is lexan specific

How about the clear coat? Can you just use krylon clear?

Sure, as long as a lexan paint was used against the body first.
