Default Airbrush setup

I am thinking about getting an airbrush to paint both lexan and hard bodies but I have little no experience with with airbrushes so I’m looking for a good complete setup, preferably under $3-400, and as quiet as possible

If I was to get into it I'd probably copy my friend's setup, he has a Badger Patriot 105, generic 1/5 HP compressor, hose and accessories and the cost is only around $180. Quiet is kind of relative, the compressor isn't on 100% of the time but when it does come on it's not terribly loud as long as its stable on carpet or something.

Basically these two: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B002W84GTO..._JLYACbJQ1PC29 and https://www.amazon.com/dp/B005H3CBXO..._4LYACbH22SMZ9

I just bought a Badger 105 Patriot to start painting bodies. I think the brush was around $80.

As for air compressors, you should get one with a tank for best results. Those little "airbrush" compressors don't have tanks.

I have a Husky, quiet, aluminum tank air compressor (rebranded California Air) that I got on clearance. It was a steal at half price on clearance. Some Home Depots stock California Air. If you want quieter you're going to have to spend big money.

I am using the Iwata Neo airbrush and a mini compressor that come together in a kit. So far the mini compressor has worked to my satisfaction. The airbrush works great as well... when it is not clogged with paint Keeping the brush clean has been a meticulous effort in my experience. It needs to be thoroughly cleaned with each use. Cant say I would recommend the Iwata Neo for that reaason

If you want to learn more about particular models of airbrushes, this guy's site is awesome. And he's well respected on some of the airbrushing/modeling forums.

Can recommend Iwata airbrushes. Compressors are generally fairly noisy things though.

It's worth noting that most airbrushes have their own nuances, and most paints also are happiest to be sprayed at certain pressures and sometimes need to be thinned. It's all fairly easy stuff to find information on.

Lexan body painting is an entirely different beast to hard bodies. For hard bodies you can learn about painting by watching almost any model painting video on the internet. All the techniques to painting AFVs or planes, as well as materials also applies to RC hard bodies. For lexan, you need to be a bit more picky about paint. Something like Fascolor or Createx autoair works on both types of body. Almost all paint needs to be thinned though and Don't forget airbrush cleaner.

Enamels or acrylics should work, with acrylics being more fragile in my opinion (but easier to clean).

Either will need a coat of primer. Mr. Surfacer being the best, also in my opinion.
