Slow drying glue to use for cloth on seats?
 

I've got the Proline 4runner interior and I'd like to add cloth to the seats. Is there any type of slow setting glue that anyone could recommend? I'd like to get the material in place and stretched/trimmed before it sets.

Your best bet is a two part application of contact cement.
If you want it to look good, you need to steam or warm it when working wrinkles out.
That said white glue and water usually work well for upholstering styrene. I usually print on paper then glue.
White glue dries clear, the RR crowd uses it in a spritz bottle for scenery

having done enough of this type of work I would be inclined to either use a spray adhesive to get it stretched into shape, or go a completely different route and consider flocking it, which limits to to solid colors or patterns.


If you really want a slow dry option you might experiment with Modge Podge, which is a water based flexable craft glue. It dries clear, but would soak through and porous fabric. This is also what I dilute in the spritz bottle for HO modeling.



mikemcE idea of contact cement is worth trying also.

You might want to check out automotive headliner and fabric adhesives. Not cheap but advertised as effective in bonding fabric to non-porous materials such as plastic and metal. Usually will give time to stretch and fit before permanently setting up. Used it about 20 years ago to re-bond a headliner to the hard backing. Spray on to both materials and then work the two together to fit all the contours and edges. Can't remember what the brand was.

I've used 3M in the past to glue carpet to the exterior of speaker boxes. Works great but it needs to be used outside or extremely well ventilated area.

Just Google 3M Spray Adhesive. Lots of variations for cloth and foam to wood and plastic.

That is funny. It reminds me of the motorcycle stunt scene from the early 2000's when everybody was putting fur on their bikes.
