Default First Paint Project: Corsa Gray JK

So, when I bought my used scx10 it came with an unpainted Jeep JK body.
It has sat around for acouple years while i thrash the (red)JK body that it had on top.

Finally, that body has begun to crack and also, i got the itch for something different. So, I decided to paint the other body i have, rather than get a different model... So, here goes for the test run.

My prep includes light scuffing with a scotchbrite pad. Warm water and Dawn wash, followed by a wipedown with 91% Isopropyl Alcohol.
So far, things look to be holding well.

When i got my truck, the red body had the silly hinge decals, etc. I quickly hand painted the outside of the body to imitate the hinge. For this body, I started with the vents, hinges and accents first, Flat Black acrylic paint..

After getting all the decals and hinges how I liked, finally came the Body color:
Tamiya PS-32 Corsa Gray

It still has the outer film on, as I havent put the white backing on yet.
Speaking of which, How long do you guy wait until you spray a different color backing onto a tamiya paint?
12 hours? 48+ hours? I'm curious.
Stay Tuned, Much more to come including:
Light buckets
Rock lights
Magnet Mounts
1000,3s

Dont mind the freshly cleaned hiking socks sprawled out...

I really like that color, reminds me of the Gulf color scheme. I typically wait 24 hours depending on temp and air conditions. What up with the orange swirls?

New age scallops! Just kiddin! I used an led light to get a sense of paint coverage. I used the orange sharpie to point out what needed another blast and what was fine. Wipes off quick with alcohol, or just peel the film when finished. Similar to the Orange, I used a pen to mark which accent pieces needed cleaning up; then painted over the pen mark with black paint to show it had been done.

Ah, the gulf color scheme, hadnt thought of that. It is definitely close to that shade of "baby blue."
We are around 30 hours since I painted the last coat, i guess i am in the clear for spraying my backing. Sweet!

Smooth sailing with the backing.
I couldn't exactly tell, so, does it make a difference if your "top" coat(body color) is pretty thick?

Also, I went ahead and pulled the stickers on the inside of the headlights as the next step is preparing and painting my lexan light buckets~for installation. I am intending on painting those Chrome. I'll research some, but is that common and proper for the headlight buckets?

While the the buckets are being sorted; ill source some ring magnets for the hood. Those will be shoegoo'd on before I ream the holes for the rear mounts(clip style) and on top of that, a trip to radioshack for a micro(m.) switch.

I'll run the m.switch off the 3S that i'll mount under the hood. The m.switch will be mounted where the (interior)gear shifter should be. I should be able to reach it through the passenger window.

Finally got around to painting the headlight buckets. I'll cut them out and shoegoo them in place tomorrow.

Before I goo them in, i will ream out the light holes for LEDs. Easy peasy.
