Default New project

Picked this sucker up for use on my backyard short course. I've got some cool ideas to take the look to the next level. First impressions after running a pack through it are good. My backyard course was designed more for the Baja Rey with its gobs of suspension. This little rig actually handled itself pretty well and scoots pretty darn good on 3S. You can tell the chassis was born out of Associated's 2WD short course platform. Anyway, stay tuned as I'll be posting updates as the project progresses.

It's always been a cool-looking little speed demon - thanks for posting, looks even better in your pics than at the product websites.

Have fun, I'm sure you will make some nifty changes!

Thanks durok!

The changes have already begun! I got the windows cut out (cannot stand window decals), then added the faux trophy truck style roll bar in the interior (courtesy of my old plastic Baja Rey cage).

After that, I hacked up the old Baja Rey interior and added the Axial skull head driver I painted up a while back. The skull driver seems fitting for this rig!

I'm pretty sure where I want to take the paint on this rig and it will definitely be sprayed on the exterior. Knowing that, I test fit a couple wheel and tire combos to try and visualize how each would look with the paint I'm thinking about. All in all a productive evening with more to come.

I intend to hack out the bed and that big, bulbous fuel cell next. It will be replaced with some thin gauge aluminum and a more realistic fuel cell.

Looking good!

These are great rigs for sure, very light and nimble. Its the only rig I've done massive jumps on (BMX sized) and it just eats them up.

This thing could really use either a rear bumper or a trim (of the rear) to protect the body when landing jumps poorly or if you happen to wheelie.

You can get the sway bar for the SC10 to work with this (it the same platform essentially), though I didn't notice a huge change after installing it on mine. I was planning on trying some thicker diff oil to get it to stop "diffing out", I noticed in the manual they use grease not diff oil.

Only thing I've broken is the servo saver and I've ran it pretty hard.

Good to know on the big jumps. I hit the smaller ones on my course and it seemed to fly true. On the diff, they do use grease. From what I've read, guys have been tuning this and the SC10 from around 5k to 8k diff fluid depending on course and preference.

Awesome, I was going to play around with something thicker real soon. I was thinking whatever was stock I'd try a bit thicker, but being grease I didn't know what to make of it.

Was up early this morning so I got after it and roughed in the new aluminum rear deck lid. Continuing the trend, I pilfered more parts from the old, plastic Baja Rey cage - She gave up the fuel cell for the cause! Need to clean up the edges and then actually mount the fuel cell, but it's coming along.

I'm still kicking around how I want to handle the grill and hood side areas. I've got some ideas, but I need to determine if there will be enough material there to support the plan and maintain some semblance of structural integrity.

You're welcome!

Yes, sir. I mean the silver and black wheels.

By the way, your post at 8:46AM this morning shows an attachment section, but I can't see it.

Inspected the grill area and it seemed like there was enough material available around it to do what I planned. Stainless mesh grill in place.

I also trimmed a bit off the bottom of the grill valence for better clearance.

So strange that they're not showing up on your end. When you told me, I went to the site here on my phone and they showed up there. Weird.

Hey Danza!

I’ll try and re-post those earlier images. Just some shots of the rear deck-lid I made and fuel cell.
