Default Bonding aluminum to ABS?

OK RC Crawler Folks -

I need to bond some 1/2" diameter aluminum tubing (1/8" or so wall thickness) to ABS sheet material. It does not need to be structural in its bond, this is merely a cosmetic, scale item application. I've done some research, and I found that Permabond makes a product called Permabond TA4246, specifically designed for this. However, at around $65 for the kit, it's a bit rich for my blood and this small application.

Anyway, just wondering if anyone else has tried, had success with alternate products / similar materials.

Thanks in advance for any feedback!

Yeah, E6000 is my go to for lexan, plastic to plastic, I just don't think it'll have enough "bite" for aluminum to plastic. I'll do a test tho. Thanks!

I haven't tried to bond them materials together, but I have used this JB Weld to bond other materials.

Maybe this will work!

Tried JB weld....didn’t do so good....needs metal to metal

I found an adhesive product at Home Depot that supposedly adheres any material together. I used it on concrete and wood...also holds rocks and such together nicely. Strong and waterproof.

I can’t remember the name....(not enough coffee). But it’s stupid simple...I’ll find the tube and take a picture....I bet it would work

Supposed to bond anything to anything....

Found it....it’s called “liquid nails “.....comes in a tube for a calking gun

Loctite Epoxy Instant Mix (mixes as it goes through the tube) should bond just about any 2 materials together. Costs roughly $4 for the tube.

Thanks for all the ideas and replies guys. I'm going to do some tests with the JB, Liquid nails (which I have used for construction projects) and the Loctite Epoxy. I'll report back.

Whichever route you take just be sure to allow proper curing time. Many will “bond” instantly or within minutes, but might require 24 or more hours to cure.

For Sure - this project is a ways from complete, so it'll have a good long while to set up.

Fuze-it works better then liquid nails on bonding different types of materials together
