| De-bonding hard body cab back...help?
Lol so as the title says I need to remove this cab back from my Hilux... it’s from Loops Models and made of “hard black plastic similar to abs.” I used the 3 “glue” method 1. Bondene 2. CA - BSI Medium 3. Shoe Goo I didn’t finish it yet so I can still get into most of the gaps if that makes a difference? BSI makes an “un-cure” but it will probably deform the body I’m thinking... Here are some pics: Hoping one of you tinytruck wizards has a solution??? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Bondene melts the plastic CA fills a gap and dries hard. Shoe Goo dries flexible covering gaps . My Advice is a sharp blade or diamond wheel. Once melted you have to separate solid plastic. So seams and gaps don’t matter anymore. As an old wizard taught me, it’s plastic, add some , sand it smooth Hang up and Drive |

Yeah, I'd also recommend a mechanical removal (as opposed to chemical). Sharp razor blade, diamond dremel wheel, maybe even try the sharp corner on the backside of an olfa type box cutter blade. |

I was worried you guys were gonna say that... lol The cab back has a lip designed to sit inside the roof/pillar section of the body and the window detail sits flush with the outside (forming a corner joint). I’m thinking I’ll have to cut along the window and through the piece, leaving the backing lip attached to the inside of the body... Appreciate the responses Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Straight cuts are easier to finish. I would square cut it and to reassemble but join it with CA and micro balloons or talcum powder. Then finish it wit 2part glazing putty, sand smooth, paint. Don’t forget it’s just plastic, easily repaired. Hang up and Drive |

Talcum powder and CA for butt joints...that’s interesting. I’m gonna look that up. I’ve settled on having to make a straight or square cut now simply following the body line. That’s easy enough. And I’m not concerned with saving the cab back. I’ll just need to remove the bit that’s left over bonded to the inside of the cab to use another cab back that allows the bed to be attached.
