Spare wheel mounting hardware suggestions please

I have the RC4WD Gelande II with Land Rover D90 body kit, I intend to make the pickup version which (from my observations of real ones) has the spare wheel mounted just under the rear window of the cab. Unfortunately I haven't seen any models with the spare wheel mounted here, nor any readily available hardware to achieve this. On a real Land Rover, from what I can make out, there's just a round mount point on the body, on the model it should just need a mounting thread the same as is on the axles.

I was pondering if the spare wheel carrier from the SCX10 could work (with a bit of modification), I don't want the whole rear gate thing that I see on Range Rovers etc, that's not what they have here on real Land Rovers.

Any suggestions (maybe spare wheel mounting parts from other kits) greatly received!

Here's a few options from RC4WD...

If you don't like the roll bar mount, you could fab something up from some sprue tree's and mount it to the back of the cab/bed wall. "thumbsup"

Making stuff from sprues sounds like a plan! Would just need to acquire a threaded bolt the same spec as used on the axles and somehow fix it on (maybe epoxy should do the trick) and tidy up the finished product.

Can't say that the roll cage appeals (it's not a standard Land Rover sort of thing, I'm going for a regular farm vehicle look).

The thickest sprue you can find will work best. I would make it so it's hidden by the tire when mounted. Screw it to the back wall with some M2 screws and nuts. Also, if you're cutting the cab to make the pickup, you could use the plastic from that to create some kind of mount instead of the sprue...it'll be hidden anyway.
Axles are standard M4, so a threaded 4mm screw and a ny-lock nut will hold the screw well enough and then, just a 4mm wing nut will hold the wheel on, making for easy removal. "thumbsup"

While it was very popular on the Series Land Rover, the mounting of the spare on top of the hood is still found from time to time on full scale Defenders. That would be a very easy mod for you if you like that look. I'd think that would fit the farm truck look fairly well also.

I love when people do spare wheel mounts
