To the top!

Found a neat trick for anyone who wants to try this. Instead of vacuum-bagging, try filling the body with a bag of water once the cloth and resin is in. The water will apply even pressure to the cloth, and should do a better job of filling in those raised areas on the hood that the vac bag wouldn't fill. I'm tempted to try it.

Yeah I know OLD POST but way worth keeping going.

A good solution for the support problem is to cast the outside of the body in plaster.

I was wondering if a storage saver bag would work. Since it is a vaccum bag and you can get them in different sizes. Please let me know, I am very interested in getting one made.

a lot of plane guys use the foodsavers for pumps. You can also use cheapo fish tank pumps by swapping the input/ouput hoses around so it sucks instead of blows. You can get the fish pumps for like $6 at petstores, and pick up tubing, fittings, and one way valves all in the fish tank aisle.

Awesome read. Why is that nobody is offering this service? CF bodies would be cool as hell and functional. Unfortunately, youd have to make your own body and mold to be able to sell em. Well guess I answered my own question. Maybe if you had consent to sell copies of manufactured bodies. Aww nope dont see that happening. Oh well, great thread!

Could you fill the inside of the body with spray expanding foam, let dry and then do your thing with the carbon fiber

Problem with foam is it has Air in it. I tried put a vacuum on a custom boat I built and when I took it out the foam had crushed in some spots and had to scrap the whole boat.

I do a lot of fiberglass pieces all in a vacuum box. Build a mold place it in the box and turn on the vacuum. I use a sealed MDF box and a Large Fish tank vacuum.

Glad to see I am not the only Resin junky on here.

You should try your hand at doing a body and post your results.

The hardest part is mashing the carbon into that damn scoop on the roof. This would work with any body. I'm surprised I haven't seen a CF Grappler yet.
