| Bushwacker flares for Hi-Lfit bodies!
There's a guy over on Scale4x4 making these out of resin, and they're hella sweet. $45 for a set. The rears have been cut to match my hacked-up body, but they come full length. Perfect fit on the body, and they even have a dimple to clear the bumper-mount screw. PM lowslowTJ over there to get a set. Those are nice but that price seems a little ridiculous.

I could post up a how-to on paint prep for resin parts if it'll help. I'll wager damned few of y'all have worked with this stuff. The resin parts come with a mold-release agent on them, which will have to be washed off to make the paint stick, and to avoid fish-eyes. Wash with dishwashing soap and water, and air dry, then prime and paint as you would any plastic part. Shoe Goo is the best way to attach the flares to the body. CA works as well, but produces a brittle joint that's likely to fail. Fine for static models, not so fine if you're going to drop it off a rock. I guess there's only so much tech that applies to fender flares The price is so high because of the price of the resin. High-quality casting resin, and especially the mold material, ain't cheap. And you only get so many pulls before the molds puke and you have to make new ones. |
