Indoor crawling course @ HobbytownUSA-Harrisburg!!

Just wanted to let everyone know that we will be constructing an indoor crawling course where our slot track currently resides! I've wanted to make this announcement for awhile, but I wanted to make sure that it was going to happen. Now that the owner has announced it on our website, and gave me the green light to start buying supplies, I figure it's time. It should be about 8' x 25' in size with a small pit area at one end. I want to do a bridge crossing and have a giant mountain as a centerpiece. I hope to have it underway soon. I also finally convinced the owner that crawling is the wave of the future in RC and we'll start carrying Axial, Tamiya, Losi, etc. Stop in to check out the progress. The slot car track is going to start it's demise tomorrow!! Whoo hoo!!!!"thumbsup""thumbsup""thumbsup""thumbsup""th umbsup"

I won't have any pics right away. I've got to tear down the slot car track first. Gotta box it all up. The track takes up that 8 x 25 spot right now, with scenery and all, so it'll take awhile. I have to take care of customers, shipments, orders and all while trying to get this thing done. I want to get some guys I know and maybe have a Sunday work party after we close up shop to get some stuff done once I get the supplies together. I'll keep ya posted.....

that answers the question i sent you by PM. I see you found our hidden crawling spot in Carlisle. We weren't intentionally keeping it secret, but the SVSC has such a sweet place at Sam Lewis it seems like they dont venture much past rocky ridge normally. I am sure i will get a blast for saying that because of the trips to Western PA, but a couple years ago my neighbor and i were making two or three trips a month to York from Carlisle, and we mentioned it often how we had a couple of awesome spots, but we couldnt seem to spark any interest. Let me know ahead of time when you come back, we can hook up here and i will show you a few other spots. the others arent as vast, but the rocks are just as awesome

From the pics I saw of it so far, it looks really awesome. Cant wait to get out that way and try it out. I think he is going to post a couple pics at some point.

what is the hours of this shop want to come check this out when its finished . Are you going to spray some coating over the burlap.:?: Looks awsome"thumbsup"

ajcloud 01-12-2009 03:10 PM

i saw it in person yesterday and i have to say it stinks. literally, that spray foam has the whole shop smelling funny. the course looks pretty slick, some thought went into it, and it appears that it should be challenging but doable and it turns back into itself a few times, so it isnt like one side to the other, but you can take a variety of lines. overall i think it will be cool, cant wait

We are coating it with fiberglass resin and it seems to be holding up well. It also adds a lot of traction. We then will paint it in varying shades of bown. Got some more done today. I'll be doing a little bit each day I'm here. Work may grind to a halt from the 17th - 25th as I'll be on vacation chillin on a beach!

MAXX, when do you work? i'd love to come in and shoot the chit. and maybe even get a few pointers for my super.

Looks great so far! I need to get up there some time and check it out"thumbsup"

MAXXMASHER 01-12-2009 08:51 PM

Got more of the course done today....

Things are progressing nicely. Yeah, there's really no way around the smell. What you're smelling is the resin coating put on the burlap. After a day, the smell dissapates and we are left with a coating that is really tough. Tonight I went for the trifecta and put some of that on, in addition to some more great foam and got some of the spots painted. I think it looks cool. Had to buy more burlap and foam today. In the morning, I'll run into Lowe's for some more screws. I think I used around 400 today!! All in all, I like it.
Some more pics - sorry these were with my phone.....

It's all done!!

I got back from vacation and put the finishing touches on the course today! The last bit of paint is drying as I type. The shop will smell like a paint booth tomorrow. My buddy dropped by with the suspension bridge today, too. We mounted that up and I think it looks cool! These were taken with my cell phone 'cause I forgot my camera...

Looks very nice! I'm in the process of building my own little outdoor course. I have access to quite a bit of rock but didn't know how large to make the rock area. I think I currently have 2 tons of rock up there now but I can get a few more tons if needed! Keep up the great work!
