It's far enough away (not too far though, just 250 miles) that if we're going, we'll drag the travel trailer along and make a weekend out of it. In other words: even if the official event is one day, I'm sure many will be up for informal runs before/after.

So is it open desert style camping, rv park, or?

I traveled from Oakridge Oregon last year, and planning on doing it again this year. Pretty much open desert camping. It's in a park but no hookups, there is a bathroom and portables scattered around. We were in our motorhome. We had a pretty good size group in our camp and had as much fun after the event as we did on the comp day!

It was a beautiful weekend last year, certainly plenty warm. We got there Friday morning I think, likely do that again if not Thursday. And yes, it's a huge area to run trucks, north one day, south another. Lots and lots of granite rocks.

The park has an open area to the north, was open camping, first come first served. But there was plenty of room. You can google-earth it for a good overview. Head home Sunday. We are about 80 miles away down by Disneyland.

It's a terrific event, with activities all day, even into the night. The scale city was great, and the self-guided treasure hunt is just a great trailrun. LOTS of peeps show up for this and I imagine it will keep growing - the hobby is more popular than ever.

Group pre-run:

A garage at scale city you could pull thru for a photo-op:

Our group camp from 2018:

Treasure hunt trail...

Nice recap Chris! We will be getting there on Thursday afternoon, to maybe set up by the park!

Yeah the event really is "just one day" but it's pretty much the whole 24 hours!
By no means do they yank the welcome mat out from under you on Sunday morning. Everyone is still up and running trails. Some maybe a little slower due to recovering from the night before. Several possible reasons lol

Bring a bunch of extra parts. Batteries. WATER AND SHADE.
helps if you have a generator.
I fogot my air mattress inflator ran on 120 and had to ask a neighbor at 11pm if I could air up. But they happily helped and thats what I love about these events.

It Really is a remote location in the Cali desert. Nearest town is like 20 min and god forbid they do have a hospital if something happens. My biggest fear is rattle snakes and people with poor coordination. The terrain is no joke and it can be easy to get in over your head if you arent used to it.
Luckily I am. I grew up camping near Barstow about 30 min from this event. Like being back home...

Oh and thats my father in laws white f150 next to my orange tent in the camp. ASCENDER TOWN!!!!
Cant wait to see you all again. My son asks almost every day if I will have the trucks ready in time haha I hope so!!!

I asked the Proline guys on Sunday about some of the events for that day and they said since so many people left they were cutting it short.

It is (or was) a 2 day event, folks just need to stick around this time!!!

EDIT: Looks like this year might just be 1 day, I dont know if I can stand to drive so far for only a 1 day event, bummer

I packed up and left before noon Sunday last year.
Father in law had to get back and not sure how much longer my son would have lasted.
*Oh yeah and my servo died a loud ugly death so I was truckless lol

We plan on overnight again regardless of event length ;)

If you're traveling a long distance plan to be there for all of Friday as well - that makes it a 2-day event. There will be plenty of crawling time for the entire day, and a kick-off party in the evening.

For travel on Cajon Pass (going home for us) you pretty much need to be going before noon - the Vegas traffic is brutal on Sundays - don't want to be in that log jam. And really, for all of California, if you're not at or near your destination by 2 or 3pm figure you'll be in a traffic condition equivalent to 'rush hour'. It is ridiculous. When we drive across the state we try to leave by 4am. Things are moving well at that hour. Over the Christmas holiday we drove 375 miles to the San Jose area near San Francisco, left at 4 and arrived at 10:30. Now that's my kind of traveling by car. My kids made the same trek home the Sunday after Thanksgiving, leaving 10:30, and it took them 11 hours. They were miserable.
So, Sunday it's breakfast, pack-up, and good-byes.

Hope you northern CA guys will make the trek again - we had a blast last year.

Here's another shot at the same locale with a local club event. Over the past couple of years of traveling and running my trucks, this is by far the best location. The crawling terrain is unsurpassed.

Good to hear there will be people around for Friday and Sunday. This will be my first event and am planning on camping Friday and Saturday night and heading back sometime Sunday, either super early to beat the Vegas traffic that Chris noted, or late enough to wait it out and drive back at night.

Can’t wait and am looking forward to meeting peeps from around here. If anyone is driving through and needs a pit stop in Vegas or a spot to crash Thursday feel free to shoot me a message.

Hmmm.. I didnt consider traffic being an issue but it makes sense. Its just not something I think about as I live pretty far away from these crazy traffic areas.

If I do go (I really want to) ideally I'd like to be there Thursday night so I can have all of Friday, but I really need to work on not cooking myself in the sun like last year.

Casey, Casey, Casey, that should read "when I go"!!! It wouldn't be the same without you.

Really hoping I get to go, not sure my transportation is going to be up to the task...

My wife will need her car (kids), my car is a bit of a work in progress, and I'm not sure I'd want to pay for the gas to drive a 91 Chevy w/ a 350 that far, lol...

This looks like a lot of fun. I really like the scale towns that are on the coarse. It might have to be on my bucket list for one day. From what I can make out any scale trucks are welcome, right? If so it makes it that much better. The location seems isolated for accommodations, say running water, hook ups so you can charge your batteries at the camp site, etc. So why does proline pick this location out of curiosity?

I’ve heard they RENT cars these days.
You can tent it with us. It’s a pretty cheap date. LOL

We’ll have plenty of charge power. Restrooms are a short walk.
The location provides enough space for the gathering and the terrain is outstanding.
