| PTI new front CVD's
Well I just got the first set of PTI front universals. They will help greatly reduce dog bone breakage. The reason the stock bones break is because the axle cup rubs the bone shaft just behind the ball at full lock. When this happens the cup wears a thin spot on the bone shaft causing a weak point. This is the point where 90% of the dog bones break at. The new CVD's also allow for the truck to have more steering angle. Last edited by OGmicromonster; 04-10-2008 at 07:06 PM. |

Nice looking axles, would you mind measuring the diameter of the bone in 2 places. The main part of the bone and at the stepped down area. Thanks, Mike |

sure thing. but just so you know the bones are the exact same as the center drive shafts on the MMT 8" chassis. I'll get those measurments in the morning. I think they might be the same diameter as the stock bones. You just won't be wearing a weak spot on them. I'll post a photo of a worn stock dog bone too.

| Here are the measurements. The bone is .143" at the main section and .112" at the stepped down area. The step down was originally for the stock MMT chassis to help give more clearance in the cup. BUT that clearance isn't necessary for the inner axle since there isn't hardly any pivoting movement. PTI is current using what they have for universal kits and I believe will be making a change to the bones so there is not step down sometime in the future.

Thanks, The .143 all the way will be perfect. Any bigger it causes other problems at least in the front, they wont flex when the joint is locked and you hit the wheel. Mike |
