Default PTI vs. AXIAL

Kinda new to the hobby but right now I have an axial that I have just finished building for my son. I have found a pretty good deal on a PTI and wondered how they compare as in performance (comp crawling), parts interchangability ect. I know it already has some axial parts on it but unsure as far as motor and tranny and things like that. It already has steele gear upgrades. Can a dig unit be added to these and if so are they brand specific? Any info on this brand you can give before I make the purchase would be helpful. Thanks
