| strong short driveshafts i need a strong driveshaft. i keep either splitting at the slip or breaking at the yoke. tried stampede shafts then went to the axial. broke them both very quickly. rc4wd offers this steel shaft. where is it measured from? center of pin to center of pin like i have shown in my photo above? Ultra Scale Hardened Steel Driveshaft (1.81"/1.96"-46mm/50mm) 5mm basically would this be a solid shaft for my unmanageable HP? Last edited by obijuan; 07-12-2015 at 06:49 PM. |

Doesn't really matter, you're already over by 2.54mm from pin-to-pin. You'll be further off if they're measured end-to-end. If I were already breaking good shafts, I'd buy the 65mm/85mm and trim it to fit if needed. But that's me. Ultra Scale Driveshaft (2.25"/3.34"-65mm/85mm) |

Somebody somewhere said these were not trimable? Could that be verified?

Not sure what they mean by "trimable" but I can cut/machine metal, even the hardened steels. With a grinder and a set of diamond needle files most could grind about 5-10mm off one or both shafts, then clean up/reshape the ends and splines with the needle files. If you're comfortable with working steel.

I can work the steel no issue. Is the spline engagement there? Is the female side fully splined?

if you can fit a big traxxas max shaft in there those are beefy and can be cut pretty short.

just to be clear, those shafts were cut down and brazed to be as short as possible while keeping a bit of spline. ;)

Clearly. I put up a want ad for some. That's pretty much what I want.
