| Help
I gota pti crawler in a trade. The problem is that it smokes after a couple minutes of run time. I have a xl-5 esc, 27t midnight, t-pro servo, running on a traxxas am system. I swaped out all the electronics except for the rx and still have the same problem. I was wondering if any one else had this problem. Was going to buy a new chassis to see if that would help. Didnt know if the motorwas touching the frame.

If you take the motor out (or just remove the pinion) can you easily turn the wheels? If not, you have binding in your drive train... Is the smoke coming from the motor or esc or...? |

The smoke is coming from the motor. Not a bad binding. My scx10 moves smoother. I dont think the axles are locked and the trans sounds like it has a slipper clutch in it.

have you run that motor in your scx10? Then you could eliminate at least one possibility.

I'm not familiar with this truck, but how is the gearing? Maybe a smaller or larger pinion is needed.

It looks like a spur and pinion. No gear box. Just those two gears. The outdrives attach to the spur and then the axles. I think its too much stress on the motors. I've burned up 3 on this thing. It just sits in my closet now.

Have you researched what the stock gearing is, for the pinion and spur gears? IMO, that would be a good thing to look into. Maybe also pick up a stock motor.

Ok so I used to have a pti and the problem is that there is no tranny it's just motor pinion to spur gear and then out to the axles unless you have the pti pro kit so I think the only way your going to not smoke motors is either run a 55t or bigger motor with 3 cell capable esc or get a gear reduction unit (GRU) and you can run a higher turn motor like what you have in it now Hope this helps, Jason |

i ran mine with a 55t on 3s, with close to stock gearing dont remember exactly. plenty of power, long run times, and the motor was always cool. sounds like you have a binding issue somewhere. |
