Default Quick Question on the PTI Goliath

hello, im new to the forum and rock crawlin world, i work a hobbytown USA and have a pti on the way, the rock crawler kit. i was wondering on what everyone was running on it motor wise, i was looking at the Integy 55t lathe motor, is this a good choice? also what esc should i be using with this, i want to go the cheapest route being on this is my first crawler? any info would be appreciated, thanks

Don't run the 55t without a gear reduction, you'll toast it. If you wan't to try the truck without a reduction box, I'd go with a 75t motor, put a 90t spur in the gearbox, and the smallest pinion you can find.

If you choose the gear reduction route, the popular way to go is a GD-600 airplane gearbox:

You'll have to turn the shaft down to 3mm to find standard pinions or find 5mm pinions which will be available via RC4WD.

The easier route is to get the gear reduction unit from RC4WD:
