The search button has all the info you'll ever need...

The TLT vs PTI thing is kinda like the tuner scene with Honda vs, say, an Audi maybe. To make a Honda fast, it's easy, because everyone and their mother has one; the roadmap to a fast Honda is well marked and easy to follow and the aftermarket is chock full of parts. If you want something a little different you go with the Audi. Harder to find parts; takes a little more work; maybe a little more money; but at least you're not like everyone else out there.

My first crawler was a pti rock crawler (new version) you are better off with something else because they are not worth $50.00 much less $150.00 you have NO product support at all if you call with a problem they tell you to call the dealer and you call them and they know nothing
I had 25 screws & nuts missing out of my kit it also had 25 screws in the box that didnt go to the goliath. I bought a rock buster and a bender chassis and never looked back this setup is wonderful no problems at all.

i have heard that the pinions in the diffs are easy to break.

but here's how it goes

get the goliath if you want to be diffrent
or get the tlt of you want to be like everyone else, and have a massive hop-up potential.

My wife bought me a Goliath rock crawler for my b-day, put it together this week and have 2 packs through it, little disappointed that I have already stripped the gears in the rear but in the machinces defense, when I pulled it apart I did find that the E clip had come off and that could have been the problem. I did have a few screws missing but heck, Ive had a few loose for years. This by all means is not my first crawler, I have a very capable unlimited class truck and I have to say the PTI is a well built machine, people can bash it all they want and they do but lets see a stock anything stay up with it, sure you can use TLT axles and build something better but how much time and money are you going to spend. Thats just my 2 cents

something I forgot to add, even with a 55 turn motor its still way too fast and under geared, rc4wd unit is manditory, not sure a gd will fit.

Im going to check into the associated gears, I already ordered stock replacements but it needs steel

i bought the pti goliath when it first came out and there was ALOT missing from the kit.i see they still dont got their chit together in that department.

customer service for me was top notch. i called and they shipped parts out asap.i had to do this a couple of times because i built the truck in steps over a week and didnt go through the whole kit at once.

the trucks quality was very nice. everything went together nicely.(still not a tlt)

i never ran mine so as far as durability i can not say.

Check out one18th.com. There is some nice info there for PTI goliaths. I just recently stipped the rear axle. Ran it for a good while before it broke though. Yes, TC3 ring pinions will work in the axles. Personally, my Goliath is stretched with T-maxx lower links, RC4WD GRU, 55T lathe, and 2.2 Moabs on stock rims. I really like it. It doesn't have as low of a CG as a rig with a laydown pede tranny but that makes it fun and challenging to drive.

A GD-600 does fit in the Goliath but you have to cut or remove the rear electronics plate. The RC4WD GRU will require the same mod, but the motor will sit lower and it's absolutely bombproof. You have to reinforce the motor plate in both applications.

I've been looking high and low for steel gears with no avail. GPM sells Delrin gears. I found that my gears can take substantial punishment if they are shimmed correctly.

I have a competition PTI Goliath. I have ran it a full season and punished it WAY beond what I and others thought it could take. The only thing I broke was part of the rear knucle where the lock out bar conected. The only reason it broke is it was a long fall. The only mod I did to the axles was the steel lock out spools. The Goliath is a very capable truck if built wright. I love mine.

hahaha, I can't believe I heard the words "Honda" and "fast" in the same post.

Back to the subject, I just got one of these PTI's off a buddy of mine and I'm trying to convert it to a scale crawler right now. I haven't got to run it yet so I don't know how they perform but I do like how the axles look.

OK, so maybe that was a bad choice of words. Hell, the whole comparison between a Honda and an Audi is a little off but you get the idea

speedsport, is yours the one with a black (I think) pickup body; maybe a C10? I remember seeing photos of one on a club site somewhere and wanted to see some more details but there was no buildup of it on RCC (or 1/18th.com) anywhere.

Yup... that's the one. Did you use some aluminum bits to mount your shocks to the axles? Looks like you did. I was looking all over that site for the photos... guess I need to learn to look past my nose...
