Default PTI Goliath

Has anybody got one of these,I have looked around and haven't found any mention of them here.I noticed they make 2 models and I was looking at their rock crawler version, looks impressive but I wanted feedback from here before buying one.

From my understanding, the front and rear differentials are the weakest link on these... Apparently the can be replaced with TC diffs relatively easily, but that is more of a band-aide fix.

I was actually SERIOUSLY considering one of these as my first crawler but after reading the disappointing performance reviews on the diffs, it sounded like I was better off building a 2.2" Comp from the TLT-1 Base...

Now I agree the PTI Goliath Cralwer looks pretty nice out of the box, and has an unbeatable entry price... but for anything more than tooling around, it appears that it is not going to impress.

I have one, trashed the rear diff gear in about 30 sec's (no exageration) the e-clip had come off, replaced the gears and beat the crap out of it. Biggest problem I have with it now is it flexs so much that the cantilevers get bottomed out and get stuck. I recommend it! the diff gears are tc3 pieces just fyi

In order to get good mileage from the diffs, they need to be shimmed. I had to do the same with my TLT too.

As you can tell, I am relatively new at this... Where are the shims placed to get the diffs working better?

shims are used to push the ring gear closer to the pinion gear (which is the smaller of the two). So I would put the bearings on the diff and then slide a couple shims on the side opposite of the teeth on the ring gear. It may take more or less shims depending on how much side-to-side play there is.

I have one (the origional kit) but I havn't really run it. I am still finishing up it's 4 wheel steering... or trying to...

Mine is a little modified, so it has taken awhile to get it this far... I made some aluminum parts..Hopefuly I will be done with it soon.

It comes with a plastic pinion gear which I managed to destroy pretty quick.

Like the guy in the last post said, I think alot of the guts are AE parts..

If you go to 1/18th.com there is TONS on info on it. Lots of guys over there ran the truck, or made it a crawler. I got some parts from guys there.
