No metal gears yet. No stretch kit yet. But you can get Delrin gears from GPM. With that said, I'm gonna say like I always do, the stock gears can last if shimmed properly. I've been running on the same set of gears for at least six months now with no problems.

How long has the Goliath rock crawler been out? And how long have they mentioned this stretch kit on their web site? I have only driven my goliath a few times so I have not had trouble with the gears. By the way do I need to put grease in the diff? it does not say to in the instructions.

my emails have gone un answered, which is unusual, PTI normal gets right back to you on things. Try contacting them, thats the best advice I can give. You could try your hand at building one yourself, prolly would have to ditch the cants though. I have been considering it myself.

I think things are very hectic around PTI these days. Usually, they are on top of emails, but lately they have not been. I know that the 12" version is due out very soon and that some of their suppliers are giving them issues. He may just be completely swamped.

The stock wheels must be cheap/soft. I haven't even mounted tires on mine, ran some HPI wheels instead to get some more track width.

What pinion do you run on the diff when you got to longer arms/WB and slider driveshafts?

The stock wheels are actually RPM wheels. So I'm willing to bet you can actually get 'em warrantied through RPM if you wanna go through the hassle.

The wheelbase shouldn't really have any effect on gearing.

I mean what differential (on the axles) pinion shafts do you run, since you switch over from the stock CVD center drives, to slider shafts, ala Traxxas?

We use the stock MIP pinion shaft.

Do you have to modify the CVD pinion shaft to fit a slider drive on it?

No, but you will have to drill out the slider.

I've been driving and testing the 12" stretch kit for the last few months. It's working extremly well.

I placed 13th in the last round of the SoCal winter series, but could have placed much much higher if I hadn't rushed at the last gate and took a mean tumble on the first course (I ended up timing out).

As soon as I finish rebuilding my GRC12, I'll post some photos. I finally stripped out the gears (they weren't shimmed). So since I had it torn down I decided to replace a few other parts.

Default PTI 12" stretch kit? Better gears

Hello Paull,

Can you give us an update on your last post please?

Your GRU is awesome and well worth the price considering it includes the reduction unit, a new motor mount (carbon fiber at that), new pinion gear and new radio plate (everything that is needed for it to simply drop right in with no hassle). Plus all the fitting and engineering has already been done so it fits and works perfectly right out of the box. If going the cheap route, and using a GD600, etc., other parts need to be fabbed up to make it work right. Also the gear reduction unit itself probably wouldn't be as nice as the one included in your kit. Most guys, unless on a very tight budget, would rather not have to go to all of that trouble, and it still end up with a "jury rigged" setup. (Just my opinion.)

Have you, by any chance, been considering some type of stronger diff gears since so many people don't, won't, or maybe can't, set them up properly and thus keep stripping them out? Even if set up properly they still tend to strip sometimes if pushed hard enough, especially in a comp situation. Availability of stronger gears would also be excellent PR for the Goliath since this issue seems to be the biggest complaint about them, and a lot of guys on the forums are recommending not going with the Goliath solely for this reason.
