Default Goliath falls over too easily, need advice

So... Finally got the car built.

I installed the Red Rocks on Axial beadlocks, left the foams out and put about ~250 grams leadballs to each front tire. I also installed "hump pack" (6V, 1050mAh) over the servo to give some extra weight. The battery I'm using is LRP's 1800mAh LiPo that's installed in the front end of the chassis on top of it. The motor mount is installed the way motor is in front.

So... How is it possible the car can't even do 90 degrees without falling over (of course it won't get over the obstacle)? Should I put some weight to the rear tires too or get rid of all the weights? Any other advice to get the gc lower?

Some images of the car can be seen here... http://tomik.luola.net/index.php?dir...oliath_Crawler

Thanks,
Tomi

Question

Ok there a couple of issues with this. First the added weight is a good adie as is the hump pack. The problen is the wb. and the cog. The wb being 10 inches and the high cog, even though you've added weight up front is your problem.

Thanks...

I'm planning on making the car 12". Moabs would be better I suppose. How about Masher 2000s ? I've seen them a lot in 2.2 class -cars.

Are the sidewalls softer in Moabs than in the Red Rocks ? It seems the sidewalls aren't falling in even I have more weight on axles.

I think the red rocks are softer. Are you using the foam? the redrocks were too soft without the foam so I did a star cut foam. I am running a star cut foam in my moabs but I am thinking of taking the foam out and maybe trying the airsoft bbs inside to give a little weight. The truck seems light to me but this is my first crawler so I dont know if more weight would be benificial.

Hmm... Star cut foams. Could you post a pic of a star cut foam? I've already tried with a foam cut in half (as the PTI Team tips -leaflet said) and didn't notice such a big difference between the tire with weights. Maybe the car won't flip THAT easily with the weights, but still...

I'm going to get the Moab 2.2s today from a friend, let's see how it goes with them. Hope it helps.

So... Bought a set of Moab 2.2s from a friend. Cut the foams to wheel's width and into star pattern. Got rid of the lead balls in wheels and added them to axles.
Man... The car goes MUCH better now! The tires bite the rocks compared to red rocks .

Hi there,

Did anyone ever post a pic of this? I would like to see what the pattern looks like.

Many thanks!

This forum is like God... it helps those who help themselves... found this doing a search

Star Pattern Template

Sorry, had to bust your nuts a bit... Personally, the star pattern doesn't soften the foam up enough for me. Additionally, I cut a v-notch down the center of the foam to allow the center of the tire to squish in but still provide some sidewall support. The star pattern alone may be enough but for a lightweight rig such as mine, the v-notch down the center did wonders.
