prototype for a new goliath chassis

Tomik and I have been working on a new chassis for the goliath. It would use the existing trans and links from the 12" extension. Tomik designed it, I put in some input and built the prototype out of foam board. From what i am seeing so far...with a little tweeking it should be a better chassis than the stock one.

i've made a chassis for the pti before, and let me tell you. DO NOT BASE IT AROUND THE PTI TRANSMISSION! when you find that it does not work very well, your chassis will not be so suited for a better tranny.
other than tranny choice, i really like the design.

I disagree about the stock tranny sucking, add a gd600 or 4:1 and it works great and you cant find a more compact one. We are discussing making provisions for a mount that would allow the chassis to be widened and use a stealth but at the moment we are working with the stock.

I like the curves in your chassis design. As for as the tranny problem, why not make it so that you can fit different ones in there? Like the R2.

The holes will be there to allow you to add an optional skidplate that will fit an r2 or stealth or..... anything you desire. The idea is to make the chassis flexable for different configurations. Once Tomik gets the initial cutting and tests it He'll be sending me 2 to try, one with a standard goliath setup with a GD600 and one with a stealth transmission. Probably wont test one with an r2 simply because I dont have one. I dont think Tomik was planning to mass produce this chassis especialy since he is in Finland and shipping would be a nightmare but, if people like it I might see if I can find a shop here in the states to make them. Problem is that low run water jet or cnc cutting can be very pricey, a coworker who used to do it said he wouldnt be suprised if each frame rail cost $30.

I kept stripping spur gears in the stock tranny with a rc4wd 4:1 reduction unit. I finally replaced it with a R2. If you are going to use it, figure out a way to mount it horizontally. In stock configuration the motor sits up too high. You'll have to widen it, which means changing the axle shock mounting locations. I thought about it an even bought the aluminum, but I ended up using the BMVII chassis. Good Luck.

I also have RC4WD 4:1 GRU and have had no problems with it. I haven't stripped a single spurgear.
I've heard that there were some problems with the R2 gears.

I'm going to start designing a better motorplate soon.

Looks good. You should see the cuts I made using a bandsaw. Tomik, I haven't forgot about your measurements, but I swore off my RC cars until I finshed our wedding video. It's been almost 3 years

No hurry, take all the time you need. As you can see I have something else going on at the moment . Maybe I'll try the torsion later.

I made my copy of the chassis out of Polycarbonate. The upper links are the lower links from the stock trcuk, just had to shorten them about 4mm. The wheelbase is set at 12.5". Not sure if Ill get any testings done, have to go back out house hunting in a few and...its hot as heck outside! Cant wait to see how those jetcut ones look on the truck. Hope everything works in testing so I can get my own set.

Heres some flex shots. Im working to mount body post's so I can put the 34 ford on it. Should be interesting with the small tires and long wheelbase. I am thinking I will have to come up with some radio plate, was half thinking of forming some lexan. Unsure about battery mounting, may go straight on the servo like on my super.

Chassis looks fantastic, it would be great to see you at a CMRCRC comp! We have a few guys from the St. Louis area attend our comps.

I've never had the opportunity to see a Goliath in competition.

Jeff, looks great! That flexes about as much as Joe's wheely king
