| PTI Axle Build
Spoke with Paul at PTI Wednesday of this week. He said they are working on their own Goliath CVD's as well as other Goliath hop-ups. No release dates yet as most are in planning, design or testing stages at the present time. He wants to be sure they are ready to ship before announcing anything specific about them. Thats about all he would reveal at this time. Just keep an eye out for them! His objective is to further advance this little rig to make it more state-of-the-art and much more comp-worthy.

Mike P, Sorry to bring up an old post, but I have a few things to mention. Threads like this, which involves lots of research and machine work, impress me. Glad to see a fellow machinist taking this hobby as serious as I. Well done. 2 thumbs up! Mod should sticky this thread in the Goliath section pronto |

I made a few improvements to my PTI axles and I think this is a killer setup. It's not direct replacement upgrade. I had all the parts left over from other projects so that was cool. I need to buy some more to finish the rear axle but I think it's well worth the effort and cost. I have a few sets of Wheely King CVD's they are perfect fit after cutting them and adding a pin in end. I drilled a hole for the pin and tapped the end of the shaft for a 4-40 grub screw to keep the pin in. |

Next mod was to enlarge the king pin hole and press in these flanged bearings, they are 1/12 scale onroad front wheel bearings with a 1/8" id.

Using TLT knuckles cut the kingpin posts down to fit inside the axles.

On 1 of the axle housings there is a fat spot this needs to be removed or it hits the bone when you turn.

This set up is smooth and tight by far the best I have had.

Like what I see Mike. Good thinking on the WK axles. What about the outdrive axles... they WK's as well? Got a part number on the CVD's? Who makes them? Where can I find aluminum TLT spindles? Did you just drill the kingpin hole larger or did you offset it it as well? How much more offset? Towards the inside or out? Last edited by ASSASSINO; 05-06-2008 at 10:41 PM. |

For what it's worth, PTI now makes direct replacement CVDs. I used TLT spindles on mine as well and I thought I had an original idea when I pondered putting bearings in Mr. Poulson beat me to it! I bought my spindles from www.jpcustomrcs.com but you can get them from www.rcpcrawlers.com or www.tcscrawlers.com as well. There's probably many other vendors on this board that sell them as well.

Hi Keith, Glad to see your always willing to help! Yep, I'm fully aware that PTI sells the CVDs now. However, a large part of this hobby is modding existing parts and making them fit somewhere else. For myself anyways. Its not a matter of saving money either as the WK CVDs are almost twice the price of the PTI units plus the TLT spindles plus the time to mod the parts. Its all good. I believe Mr. Poulson has a very informative thread here and I give the man credit for modding he's diffs to this extent. Thanks for the sites Keith. I'll look into it |

The PTI CVD's are a great upgrade for the axles, the WK CVD gives you a little more. Get them from rcp |
