Tamiya DF-03ra WRC 2008 Rally RC

Well if you have not seen any of the videos on vimeo or youtube http://vimeo.com/1793487 showing these crazy Europeans running after there Rc Rally cars on amazing Scale tracks then your missing out on one of the coolest aspects of RC's....well at least I think so. Anyways I saw a few and got hooked! Now I want to build my own track and had to grab a Rally worthy RC and the tamiya DF-03ra fits the bill.

I will make a video of it soon enough!

Here are some pictures!

Nice, I've been having fun with mine for a month now. Watch your dog bone cups, with some adjustment of the foams you should be able to keep them from falling out. Also you might want to limit travel as you will pop the tie rods at full compression.

*be careful if you run brushless! I've got a 5700kv MMpro and have been melting the main ball diff gear in the rear. My friend on the other-hand has had great success with a VXL system in there. I think the extra speed just causes the rear diff to overheat and melt down. I'm about to also switch to a VXL, but otherwise it has been a very fun vehicle and they handle dirt and jumps very well!

Here's some pics of mine.

*****GRAPHIC TOE JAM WARNING*****

Dude awsome color choice! I wish I would of picked something other than white...

This is what happens when you mix RC cars and bare feet! I was home today because my back was all jacked up from my 6-7 hour build yesterday and I got bored so I went outside to run my RC and figured I would not put on shoes, Bad idea! I was just tooling around and drove me car past my feet as I was sitting on a brick wall and the car hit my foot. The strange thing was it was not that hard of a hit but my big toe nail pulled 90% off. The foam bumper and plastic support pice was what hit and my nail went between the foam and plastic. OUCH! I had to pull it off with some Hobby gade (of course) pliers!
I did add more stickers to the WRC car and I realy like it now. It sets the paint off a lot better and the stock electronics are perfect for this car. I am glad I didn't add Brushless or I would of lost the whole foot!

Really? I have not had a single issue with any of those things. I did as the directions said and put foam in each stub shaft and they have been fine. The only issues I have had was from hitting things. With that I broke a front knuckle, and one rear axle shaft.

I have also had really good luck with the MM 5700 combo, The rear diff was fine but did have to replace one of the rear cups that holds the inside stub shaft due to it wallowing out. Keep in mind I ran three 2m screws threw the diff to lock it out. I opened the diff for the time being and just painted another body up.
The car is stupid fast on 2 cell 5000mah lipo and the 5700 combo with a 29t pinion, but this speed has not cause any issues, it is actually really nice when I want to break the car free and get it to slide around. And the best part is I can get it to slide at just about any speed.

Here is a photo when I first set it up, I'll get photos of the new body in the next couple days.

Keep in mind I have been driving the hell out of mine since December...

"The car is stupid fast on 2 cell 5000mah lipo"

LOL, that's my problem...I'm on a 3s 3500mah lipo! :lmao: I think the lower Kv of the VXL should do the trick for me.

BTW, love the Ken Block paint on your car. Grumpster, your car is also looking good now with the rest of the stickers applied!

HA yeah that would be your problem.:lmao:

Thanks, the new body is closer to the box art, I just felt like a needed a wrb body.:)

Grumpster1980 06-04-2010 10:45 AM

Hey Turtle That is an amazing paint job! Now I have to go out and buy another body and do a decent paint job on it. The white was a bad choice and I knew it but I was wanting to finish it and painted it with what I had laying around. :x Oh well now I have a beater body.

Thanks for sharing your pictures! Now we just need an awsome track to run them on!

If you are in Fremont, CA then NorCal Hobbies in Union City has an awesome track. I've heard good things about it and although it's set up for shortcourse racing, people have had great luck running these DF03-ra on them.

Right now i'm mostly on-road bashing, but I've also seen my buddy's rig run at Shells in Foster City. It did some mean drifts and hit the BMX jumps like a champ.

Grew up in San Mateo i know the spot in Foster City and Nor Cal is 10 min Away. I just renewed my R.O.A.R so Ill see you there.

Huey 06-04-2010 05:16 PM

Cool! I work in San Mateo and my buddies and I do Shells every now and then with our buggys/truggys. We also rock crawl where the kite surfers launch next to the driving range.

We'll def have to meet up some time for some fun.

DrunkDriver 06-05-2010 11:44 AM

That link to the video you posted is for a club in Brno, Czech. I was there last year for 3 months. I will be returning to Brno again later this year.

How awsome! I will have to build a Rally car when I'm there and find out how fast I can run and drive.

BTW R/C is very popular there in CZ. They actually have scale ww2 battles involving RC boats, planes, and vehicles. They have dozens of RC's running in a small area.

Here is a link to the model exposition in BRNO:
